I was a little excited but then I saw it's the other Portland.
The SACD for Sea Change is probably one of the best candidates for why you should make 5.1 music.

I have it
Mutations
Sea change
Guero
A shitload of amazing b-sides and soundtrack songs
Midnite vultures
Odelay
Mellow gold
The info
Modern guilt
Old shit
im not a big Beck fan, just heard 3 or 4 albums, but both MV and Odelay are great. And Sea Change of course.
i'd have modern guilt much higher and guero & MV lower.

Beck wrote:...the songs are coming out of a California tradition. I'm hearing the Byrds, Crosby Stills and Nash, Gram Parsons, Neil Young – the bigger idea of what that sound is to me.

i'd rank:
Mutations (just very personal to me)
Odelay
Sea Change
Midnite Vultures
Guerro
Mellow Gold
Modern Guilt
The Information
old shit
b sides are all over the place but the best of them would be right up at the top

Really? I love the Odelay/Guero aesthetic. I remember trying Modern Guilt out when it came out and finding it pretty dull. Haven't listened to it since its release year. Could maybe give it a revisit now with my more mature ears.

I love half of Guero, like the other half and (in the interest of full disclosure) I'm not as high on Odelay as most. It's a fine record, certainly not a bad one. Modern Guilt feels like an old friend.

There's skippable songs on several of his records that I classify as good.

I think Guero is way better than Odelay, and Mutations is his true masterpiece, but that's just me.

Team WCT, except I think Seachange is a tiny bit better than Mutations.

No it isn't.
Odd as it sounds, Mutations is better after one reads Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. I'm not saying Beck's read it. Or that they have anything to do with each other, but... Ka. And and all that.

Easily a top 5 in my books. I may have actually seen Beck live more than anybody else. Or maybe it's Ween? Not sure. As always, can't wait to hear anything he does.
