Have you finished your drum review of the album yet?
No, I stalled on it. I realised that the drums are rarely the reason for my favourite parts on this album (which is a credit to other aspects, coming from me). That doesn't mean the drumming isn't pretty good in spots, but it's just slightly unremarkable. There's not a lot to say. Having said that, maybe I could do something that talks about the highlights. I'm basically just lazy, also.

It's harder to think of PJ bridges that I don't like. But "Jeremy" comes to mind.

A part of the song different to both the verses or choruses is what i always figure. The 'in the blood the iron lies' part of insignificance, 'have a nice drink' bit of greivance, hallelujah part of dte.

Yes, it generally involves a key change as well to stand out apart from the rest of the song, though not always.
What if they just made the whole song....OUT OF THE BRIDGE.
But seriously, why would it be that they have such a knack for this, whereas they're much more likely to flounder in the chorus? It seems they give their bridges a bit of freedom and adventurousness that they actively reign in elsewhere.
I can only speak for myself as a musician, but bridges always come to me easier then the rest of the song does. I often end up liking my bridges more than some of my choruses (and in turn sometimes flip-flop them to make a bridge the new chorus)
I think it's just that they love writing bridges, and we all want to do the most work on our favourite parts. So they go all out on the bridge and are relatively lazy elsewhere. I get the feeling that lately, Ed is ridiculously calculated about the "purpose" of his choruses. There are tried and tested ways of getting a crowd excited with a rousing chorus, and Ed seems to be shooting at all of them with every song at the moment. But because those blueprints, "rules" and imagined "expectations" don't exist for bridges (people never define a "type" of song by its bridge), he probably just works at it until he has something that "works", which is also unique and appropriate to the song. If only he'd throw away the rulebook for the rest of a song.

Life Wasted has a really good bridge as well, shame about the rest of the song.
