Hey, I picked something off "Lightning Bolt" too!

(And I think "The Fixer" is pretty darn groovy, in places.)

I will forever associate In the Moonlight with you. It is a song I've tried several times to get in to just because you speak so highly of it

This reminds me I need to get my copy of Mystery Pill back from my brother.

I'm trying to think of a song on Vitalogy that I'd call "groovy". Tremor Christ maybe.
It's not just about a slow "groovy" tempo for me, also about lots of pushes and accents. All of these rely on a strong Jeff and Dave presence, in my opinion:

Last Exit
Tremor Christ
Not For You
Corduroy
Satan's Bed
Spin the Black Circle
Whipping
Immortality
Pry, To
Aye Davanita

Edit: but, interestingly, "Corduroy" is probably the only song in the catalogue that I think Matt drums more "groovily" than Dave A. On a good night.

And yeah, I'd call "The Fixer" groovy as well. It's the main reason I like it (when I'm in the mood to like it).

I didn't name Dirty Frank because I think it tries too hard to be groovy, and in the process, isn't. Really. At the time, RHCP was more groovy, and this song simply rips them off.

All those weird time-shifts in the verse. The ghosting on the drums. It's all funk.

Okay, cool. Now how about a 14 song playlist of the MOST groovy?

Here I go (with no specific order):

Rival
Army Reserve
Animal
Blood
No Way
Infallible
Hail, Hail
Evacuation
You Are
Ghost
Lightning Bolt
In The Coonlight
Last Exit
My Father's Son

(I included MFS because I'm listening to it right now and it seems pretty damn groovy)

Umm, maybe. I'm not sure. I have a very vague, very phenomenological, sense of what groovy PJ is.

This board's namesake has to be at the top of the list: Red Mosquito.

I didn't name Dirty Frank because I think it tries too hard to be groovy, and in the process, isn't. Really. At the time, RHCP was more groovy, and this song simply rips them off.
didnt they write dirty frank when they were on tour with the chilli peppers or somehting?

I don't know... but if you don't hear Jeff's funky bass in that song, you cray, harmless!

It's not so much a rip-off as a direct homage.

I do. Everything in the song is funky, it's just also generic.

That would depend on how much you like it, I guess.

I don't think groovy necessitates funky.

Well, that's what I took it to mean... explain to me how you interpret it? no snark, I'm being sincere.

I don't see how that matters either way.

What I mean is that's it's meant to sound like RHCP, the similarity is entirely intentional.
