I'm glad this piece was edited. It's some of your finest work.

Not looking good. Hitsdailydouble has them out of the top 50, with 50% reporting as of this moment. We shall see what happens. RIAA has always been about shipping and not actual sales, so there is a decent chance they can still make it to 500K.

ITunes has them at 65.
Amazon at 51 for CD sales.
Amazon at 14 in MP3 sales. Only 4 dollars if you want to go that way.
Vinyl sold out on Amazon.

The correct answer is that it doesn't matter...

Of course it matters! How can you have your very important message ("aw-uh, I love my wife and kids") heard if you don't go Gold?

Sounds like a nice message.

I don't think they've ever been in the top 50 (this decade) six week after an album was released. That's not a huge indicator of much.

Backspacer managed 7 weeks in the top 50.

292,000. Currently the 80th best-selling album of the year.

I'd bet it would take another hundred thousand to go gold, and that would take a combination of things that just aren't likely.

Apparently Sirens is on Rolling Stones list of the year's best songs.

They also list the album among the year's best. Must have been a real slow year.

The only thing that would make the new album worse for McP would be if we found out that Swallowed Whole was about Boba Fett's death in Return of the Jedi and Future Days was about the possible inclusion of the Millenium Falcon in the next Star Wars movie.

It is certainly the Jar Jar Binks of their entire catalog.

This album is pretty great. It deserves to go gold. Maybe we can steal it from someone else. Awards work that way, right?
