I don't even like the Clash's version, but if I want to hear this particular song, which is never, I'll bust out Combat Rock.

I feel that PJ's version of KYR was something they did on that tour as a small tribute to Joe Strummer since he was supposed to be the opening act for them with the Mescaleros. It kinda fit that time in the decade when they first started playing it, the one from the Tokyo gig was the best one from that tour for me. I think The Clash are difficult band to cover, not many bands have done a good job at trying.
I wish Pearl Jam would attempt another Clash tune, I think they could do a good job with Charlie Don't Surf

I wish Pearl Jam would stop with all the freakin' covers and play their own songs. It pisses me off that songs like "Tremor Christ", "Who You Are", "Insignificance", or whatever get bumped for a crappy cover.felipe wrote:I feel that PJ's version of KYR was something they did on that tour as a small tribute to Joe Strummer since he was supposed to be the opening act for them with the Mescaleros. They should drop Baba O', RITFW, and all covers. They should then replace those covers with their original tunes. What would you rather have, "Animal" or "Know Your Rights"? "Crown of Thorns" or "In My Tree"? For me, the answer is easy and obvious. Stop with the crappy covers and play your own damn songs.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed lil the number of covers was way down this year. In Phoenix, the only covers were Interstellar Overdrive, which doesn't really bother me ... or maybe even count ... and RITFW which I could do without, but is such a staple that it barely feels like a cover. Plus they had Nils Lofgren there playing with them so it even made sense.darth_vedder wrote:I wish Pearl Jam would stop with all the freakin' covers and play their own songs. That might be an outlier, but most other shows seemed to have fewer overall, as well.
In 2003 I saw a show where the entire second encore (5 songs!) was covers.

2003 was definitely the worst year for this.mray10 wrote:

The second night in Boston in 2004 featured 7 covers (and neither Even Flow nor Better Man).
