i dunno, I still hate the first one more. Everything about it is just so fraudulent. In any case, they are a vile collection of worthless shitbags.

Good call. Two of the worst songs I've ever heard.BurtReynolds wrote:i dunno, I still hate the first one more. Everything about it is just so fraudulent. In any case, they are a vile collection of worthless shitbags.

I'm not trying to provoke Lament or Skitch here, but Ke$ha really has made some of the most detestable songs I've had to endure.

Agreed. I genuinely can't think of words to describe how truly grating I find her music.theplatypus wrote:I'm not trying to provoke Lament or Skitch here, but Ke$ha really has made some of the most detestable songs I've had to endure.

Re: The Worst Songs Of All Time
I always take issue with lists like these, because most of what people describe as "the worst songs ever" are, at the very least, competently written songs with questionable aesthetic instincts, or which follow a bad cliche to the point of absurdity--something particularly annoying, which, precisely because the craft of the song is generally sound, causes those little pet peeves to resonate in your mind in a way that they wouldn't in a song that simply wasn't any good, which only annoys you further. But in reality, at most coffeehouse open mics, you will hear at least a dozen songs that are twice as bad as any of these within an hour.

There's always this:
That might be the actual worst song ever.
That might be the actual worst song ever.

Re: The Worst Songs Of All Time
"I Can't Go For That" is a late night Philly bass jam. How could that be the worst song of all time? Scratch that one off the list.
"Africa" is hardly a shining example of bad 80's production. It brings back rather pleasant memories for me, and has only recently become a song that is popular to make jokes about. I don't get why people are singling this song out for ridicule, but whatever.
"Brown Eyed Girl" is another one that gives me an overwhelmingly nostalgic and good feeling. There are far more annoying songs from the 60's.
"Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" is a great song and it's the main Beatles song that has become trendy and cool to diss. It's the "Evacuation" of Beatles songs.
Everything else is pretty spot on though. I love the description of the Meatloaf song.

It certainly would include We are the World, which is nauseatingly horrible.
That wonderful christmas time song might make my list, but I also hate x-mas music and don't like the beatles, so that's a heady combination
It's a small world is rough, but it is a jingle, basically.
I have a hard time including songs like 'we built this city' because they're just so ridiculous that they practically cross over into enjoyable on the strength of their absurdity.
Also, I LOVE Paradise by the Dashboard Light.
I do think I'd include I Will Always Love You from The Bodyguard on any list like this

its like 'don't stop believing'. im not sure when or why these songs made comebacks, but they both became super popular again sometime after 2000. neither are overly terrible, but i would have chosen something like inxs as far as 80s pop songs to have comebacks. i hear 'africa' almost ever night during the summer. my buddy is a bartender and sprays everyone on the dance floor w water during the 'i bless the rains...' part. if nothing else, the song is good for that. its not something i would listen to by myself thoughWendy Carlos's Twin wrote: "Africa" is hardly a shining example of bad 80's production. I really love the line "it's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you," but then I remember he's not singing about an unrequited or lost lover, but rather his desire to go provide aid to Africa (which, as far as I know, he never actually did, so perhaps it didn't take that much to keep him away) and I love it much less.

maybe that line would have been better served in his love song to RosannaLament wrote:I really love the line "it's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you," but then I remember he's not singing about an unrequited or lost lover, but rather his desire to go provide aid to Africa (which, as far as I know, he never actually did, so perhaps it didn't take that much to keep him away) and I love it much less.
