Given to Fly is probably one of the songs that has fallen the most for me. I loved it but now it might just be my least favorite thing about Yield.

Given to Fly is easily Top 5 for me. "But they've worn it out live". I live in South Africa, I don't get to see them live (except for those 3 shows in 2009. And Amsterdam this year. Whoop!).

I'm not a fan at all of the way they play it now, the studio version is great.
I dislike how Eddie sounds on the studio version, it's too forced or something. The 2000 versions are great though.

they havent worn it out live. ive seen them 20+ times since yield was released and any time gtf is played its one of the highlights of the show. they should play it at every show until they stop playing. it might be their best live song

Yup, Given to Fly is always very satisfied.

GTF is one of those songs where I agree with the general perception that they play way too fucking fast live. Even up to 2000, the live versions had a sort of... I dunno, like a weird mix between tenderness and solemnity, especially in the verses... that is completely sucked out of the song when they're steamrolling through it.

Lo2L version of GtF is def. worth a revisit.

I'm advocating for the band to tour Japan.

Yes, that's my problem. Eddie just sounds kinda weird in the studio version

I'm a big fan of the Monkeywrench Radio version.

Given to Fly hasn't sounded right since Jack Irons left.

I don't mind the 2000 Matt Cameron versions. But Jack Irons really brought the magic.

I guess I'm the contrarian again, but I never thought they "got" GtF live. The sound of the guitars and the soft-spoken quality of the verses are key to the mood that is the song's emotional core, and the live versions (by 2000 for sure) were the first hints of "push too hard to sound resonantly low and just end up warbly" Ed.

Given to Fly is fine. But it's never really captured me. This is the only time I'll be voting for it in this tourney. Even if it somehow manages to beat Long Road.

i should be voting for GTF, cause it's a way better song

but crazy mary is losing and i am a dirty whore for guitar solos and no matter how much prada current ed wears on stage he cannot take my memories of lengthy and satisfying crazy mary solos past
