"Amongst the Waves" is probably one of Pearl Jam's ten worst songs. It had some potential but it was totally flattened in the execution. "Swallowed Whole" is definitely one of the best songs on the new album--not saying much, but it's enough to save it here.

Swallowed Whole, albeit I can't really say I'm thrilled with my choices in this round. It's a shame that there are songs in this round so much better than either of these that'll get voted out.

Inside Job's lyrics wouldn't be so much of an issue if everything else about the song wouldn't be trying so hard to convince the world how profound those lyrics are.

I disagree, actually. I think swallowed whole is trying to say something of substance with its lyrics, albeit more obliquely than amongst the waves. And it is successful. They're good lyrics. Own em!
For the record I think the lyrics in ATW are good too, especially the verses

Swallowed Whole is a genuinely good song. Put it on any post No Code album and i'd say it be in the top 5 of that album.
