Smaug is a force of nature. It'll be easy. His proper target level is probably town
I didn't get to finish DoS when I watched it the other day. I have about an hour left. So it'll be interesting to see if my view of the smaug stuff changes on the small screen

I just think a lot if the elements and setups in the big chase render him impotent.

Yeah, a lot of the decisions made during the dwarf/smaug scenes inexplicably bordered on farcical. They'd done such a great job in the thirty minutes prior to that of building him up as this coiled, tense, brilliant and foreboding terror...and then they treated him like one of the three stooges.

So they've renamed it Battle of the five armies.
I'm good with that.

Lowlight, once smaug has been defeated and the dwarves retake the mountain, men from lake town come for restitution for all the damage smaug caused their logic being, you woke the dragon. You can pay for the damage. The elves come to back the men up. But an army of dwarves upon hearing the mountain has been retaken come to help thorin/aka get a share even though they wouldn't help him in the first place but now he's the rightful king they will.
They're all camped out in front of the mountain which the dwarves have barred themselves into when a big Orc army come and they all band together against them.
Stuff stuff stuff death orcs defeated, bilbo goes home on a donkey with some gold for his trouble(and the ring)
The end.

Should point out that's what happens in the book.
If the rumours are true there's an awful lot of stuff being added to that (a fourth film is actually rumoured also) by Peter Jackson et al.
I like my synopsis better though.
