1. Redd Kross - Researching the Blues
2. Bob Mould - Silver Age
3. Graham Coxon - A&E
4. Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral
5. Soundgarden - King Animal

The rest were all box sets or reissues. It appears I'm actually just having a massive 90's hangover and have stopped looking for new artists.

I think I only heard 10 new albums this year, but here's how I'd rank them:

1. Mynabirds, The - Generals
2. Jack White - Blunderbuss
3. Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...
4. Glen Hansard - Rhythm and Repose
5. First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar
6. Mumford and Sons - Babel
7. Pigpen Theater Company - Breman
8. Band of Horses - Mirage Rock
9. Ben Folds Five - The Sound of the Life of the Mind
10. Alanis Morissette - Havoc and Bright Lights

But honestly, that Alanis album has no business in a top ten list (whether best or worst) of the year. But, those are the 10 new ones I heard this year. So I'm including it.

Do Soundtracks count? Do digital only releases count? If so, I'd like to replace that Alanis album with the How I Met Your Mother Soundtrack.

Chalmers, I haven't been able to fully get behind Between the Times and the Tides yet. I'm surprised to see it so high on your list. Was that a gradual thing for you or was it an instant classic?

I don't know. Objectively its not that good of a record, but I really liked it. Maybe it was seeing some of the material performed live before the record came out. Lost, Hammer Blows, and Off the Wal all stood out for me. Plus, I went back to it a bunch so it had a high replay value.

I kept coming back to it too, it's going to end up somewhere fairly high in my list.

I think it's done, I'm just uncertain about placement. Ranking is silly.

Sometimes they don't. Digital release shouldn't be an issue. But soundtracks are a different animal. Multiple artists, etc. I could see why they wouldn't count.

Any artistic statement through music should count.

Hell, even Beck's 2012 release should count.

This is cool, thanks for the recommendation.
