PJ used to create great live atmospheres with their improvs.

2000 tour had some great improvs. My favorite is probably Of The Moon from the Nurnberg show.

There's probably only a handful of post 2000 improvs that really stuck with me. A couple off the top of my head: State College 2003 and "Portugal" improv from Lisbon 2006.

But, for the most part, they didn't seem nearly as inspired after the 2000 tour.

There is one from the 2003 HOB show that is pretty great.

Improvs are things bands do that don't slap together an 8 date east coast tour and then call it quits for 6 or 7 months, sadly

Me too! When starting my boot collection I used to seek out boots that had Habit just for the improvs. Barrie 98 is one of my favorites.

I still haven't bothered with the remastered Ten/Vs/Vitalogy. Don't know that I'm invested enough to care about early year bootlegs.

the remixed ten is worth a listen. Otherwise they are nice for collectors/huge fans of those years, but hardly essential

I think it's a pretty fair to say that most of us are holding out for some '98 official boots.

im thinking maybe the vault 3 might be something from 1998 with matt, because they hinted something about it in the deep magazine.

Yeah some pro-shot footage from the Yield tour is long overdue. I remember being so blown away by TB2000 because we basically had nothing like it at that point.
I'd like to see the 96-98 reissue with something like that with a proper setlist structure but clips taken from many different shows.

As much as I love and have worn out 9/5/00, I have a feeling that a quality boot of 8/25/98 would beat it:

I have at least a hundred bootlegs from their first show to the 2010 Bridge School Benefits. 1998-2003 is definitely the best period with performances, variety, and Ed's capabilities.

There were points even as early as 1992 where Ed sounded pretty ragged and through the 1996 tour there are plenty of songs that can be downright painful to listen to (Corduroy being the glaring example). Then around 2005 or so we started getting some of the weird singing from Ed, which depending on the song is no big deal to really distracting.

All that being said I don't really revisit them all that often (probably will be reinvigorated at some point), but when I was around a sophomore in college (2006-2007) they were pretty much all I listened to when I found that website you could download them directly from.
