I love "Dead Man" but "Parachutes" is a melodic tour de force. One of the very few post-RAMG PJ songs that continues to rise in my estimation.

I think this is the first match where I'm going to feel bad either way I vote, or no matter the outcome. These are both great songs that I consider among my very favorite Pearl Jam compositions. I'm gonna need to think about this one for a while.

Parachutes; it's a beauty, and a big bright spot on S/T.

C'mon Parachutes! Probably my fav post-RA song. Although Dead Man is pretty sweet, Parachutes is my baby daddy... #pleasegivealittlelovetoparachutes

Parachutes is vastly superior. How is this even debatable?
Please, someone explain the merits of Dead Man to me, because I don't hear it. It's just plodding and bland. I get that the purpose is to make you feel empty, but come on.

Dead man is a beautiful, haunting song with fantastic imagery. It's evocative and carries Ed's voice well on the melody. I really dig the song. But I voted for Parachutes.

It hangs around with some pretty shitty songs.

I went the opposite route. Parachutes is pure Beatlesque quirk, and its misbehaviors are all the more welcome for being on such a straight line of a record. But there aren't more than one or two songs in the catalog I like more than Dead Man.

What's weird to me is that he seems to be so terrible at being happy. Like, he's so completely lost as a centered, happy family man who has to come up with something interesting to say in songs that it always has this weirdly forced quality that makes it feel disingenuous.
LOOK HOW HAPPY I AM

Also, crazier than the Dead Man / Future Days thing is the idea that the guy who wrote Future Days is just a ten years older version of this dude.
