Insignificance accomplishes everything Evacuation aspires to and then some (except being in an odd meter). These two side by side really highlight the shortcomings of Evacuation.

And Smile gives you the only Jeff Ament guitar solo probably on earth, making it the clear winner if only for its historical merit. It's also the first time Eddie Vedder played on record the one harmonica riff he knows, therefore adding to the historical pedigree of the song.

This is tough. I absolutely love Evacuation but Smile is so strangely gorgeous (studio).

I've always really liked the lyrics in Evacuation as well as the guitar, bridge, and chorus.

He sensed worry could be strength, with a plan he said time for...

evacuation was one of those songs I was starting to think I kind of liked until I heard it recently

It's just ugly.

Don't like either but the back half of Smile is A+.

Evacuation seems to certainly be one of the more polarizing songs in their catalogue.

I like Evacuation a lot more now than I used to, but it's still one of the weaker tracks on Binaural and Smile is Smile, so it wins.

Evacuation seems to appeal to RM's musician types, where we more philistine members don't get it.

This is pretty much a toss-up for me but I went with "Evacuation" because it seemed like it needed the love.

I'm not sure I understand this point. They strike me as very different songs. What exactly do you think "Evacuation" aspires to?
