Woo-hoo! We've got eight. Alright, looks like it's...

LetMeSleep
Sgt. Crackpot
The Argonaut
durdencommatyler
Iholdthepain
Kaius
Varis
Lament

If anyone else wants in while we're hammering out the rules let me know, and we'll see if we can make it work. Otherwise, here's what I'm thinking for the preliminary rules/format. Let me know what you guys would change/add/subtract.

We'll draft the same as all the drafts here seem to go; The last person in one round is the first person in the next round. I was originally going to propose six rounds, with everyone forced to make a pick in each round, but I'm thinking maybe we should alter that. You pick until you've assembled a complete line up. If that means you only make three picks, so be it. If it takes you seven rounds, that's fine too. Once you've completed your line up, you'll just be removed from the draft order in the next round.

Once the draft is over, give your band a name (per doug rr's request). Everyone will then have the opportunity to make a presentation post to state their case for their band. You can include whatever you want in this post. It can be clips of the various members performing, explanations as to why you think your band would work/have chemistry, who would be responsible for composing the material, what you'd imagine they'd sound like, anything really. If you just want to post their names and what they'll be playing and leave it at that, that's cool too. You can put whatever you want in these posts. It's your chance to sway people's opinions into your camp.

We'll then randomly generate four match ups and have people vote on which "band" they prefer. The criteria is up to each voter. Vote on who you think would be better live, make a better studio record, whatever. I'm open to suggestions as to how long we should keep each round of voting open. We'll whittle it down to a final four, and then a championship round.

So yeah, what would you guys want to change/add/etc.?

How does everyone feel about not having 2 members from the same band? But not limited to one offs or guest appearances. So you could have Slash and Michael Jackson but not Slash and Axl.

Thoughts?

I envisioned tv/movie stars to play acting parts as one of our favorite bands... for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, starring:

Gollum as Flea

Image
Will Ferrell as Chad Smith

Criss Angel as Anthony Kiedis

and as their ever-revolving guitarist...

I'll randomly generate a draft order sometime later tonight/super early tomorrow morning and we can get this thing rolling (barring any major rule change suggestions).

I'm good to go on this. I don't have any major rule suggestions, but I do like the 'one member per band' idea.

My band is gonna be awesome.

I would totally expect someone to select Guy "Skitch" Patterson. But not Chad. All he can play is Wipeout.

Alright, per RANDOM.ORG, the draft order is...

1. Varis
2. Kaius
3. Iholdthepain
4. The Argonaut
5. Sgt. Crackpot
6. Lament
7. LetMeSleep
8. durdencommatyler

Per the rules, round two will start with durdencommatyler and work it's way back through the order.

Varis, you have the first pick in the draft and are free to make your choice whenever you're ready.

I will edit the first post to include the order and update the bands as they're assembled.

OK, so I have a pretty definite idea of what type of music my band is going to play and as first pick I need to get a superstar who can hold your attention in his own right but also fit into a band groove and play his part, so to speak.

This guy is my all time favourite artist and is just simply a monster. He can hold his own as a singer, but I don't expect him to be the front man of the band here.

And as for chops, he has more than, in my opinion, anyone else who ever lived, although I'm sure that many would argue me on that point. But what can't be argued is his tone. His tone was singularly his own and it was a thing of beauty.

So be it wailing out front or locking into a tasty groove, the man for me as first pick is:

Stevie Ray Vaughan
