pretty much, unless you are a big Eva Green fan.

There was enough there for me to want to watch Season 2. Kinda like the pirate show on Starz. Not a world beater but I enjoyed it enough to stick around.

Several similar shows (True Blood for example) improved in S2, so I will watch, but it's a DVR it for later show, not a stay up and watch it show.

I have that pirate show (Black Sails, wasn't it?) still waiting on the dvr. I watched the first 2 or 3 then other things took my attention, did it improve?
I'm definitely in for season 2 of Penny Dreadful though. I'm confident the writers will pull it together and not be so "higgledy-piggledy" next time round. When is it scheduled to return?

Eva Green's hotness - Josh Hartnett's acting = 0

Hmmmm....did it improve? Good question. I guess I would say its quality level was the same throughout so maybe if you didn't like it in the beginning your feelings wouldn't change. I'm a sucker for pirates so I'm sticking with it.

Its worth it just for Eva Green. She's a tour de force.

True, she's amazing in this series. She should've won an Emmy.

Season 2 was even better. The night sisters were terrifying and they made the wolf stuff with Ethan work. I'm not sure about Lily's sudden transformation but otherwise it was wonderful

does this show end in season 3, or was it just not renewed?

It depends on who you believe. The creator says it was always three seasons and done. My feeling is based on the trajectory of the show that isn't true. You can tell things changed mid stream and greatly accelerated during season 3. It looks like the show was planning on more seasons but at some point during the filming of Season 3 Eva said this is the end for me...they set things (additional cast member) in motion to continue without her but at the last moment decided against it. I don't want to say anything else till after you finish the last season.

I was not a huge fan of Eva Green until this. She is tremendous.
