At the risk of chudding myself off the board & out of seriousness: this.theplatypus wrote:I consume music much more frequently than any other art form, by virtue of its relative unobtrusiveness (it's easy to listen to music while performing myriad other tasks, while you can't really carefully watch a film while doing something else), but I am just as voracious in my love for film. In terms of their capacity to move and excite me, they're neck-and-neck. I don't think I could choose "sides", and thankfully I don't have to.
Jorge, your best post and I agree completely. Well said.

Having said that, though... I read more than I watch these days. And I'm a writer. So I suppose I should throw literature ahead of film. And probably throw theatre ahead of all of it.

I LOVE performing theatre, but I can't watch the stuff unless it's high budget and pretty to look at.durdencommatyler wrote:Having said that, though... I read more than I watch these days. Is that something that requires capitalisation? Or just theatre at school?durdencommatyler wrote:ABNorman wrote:I LOVE performing theatre, but I can't watch the stuff unless it's high budget and pretty to look at.durdencommatyler wrote:Having said that, though... It's just theatre at school. But it meant a lot. So....

Re: What is your favourite form of art/entertainment?
On paper, I don't have a favourite, as a painting can excite me as much as a movie or a musical piece etc. (I'm only talking about art here, entertainment is another story). But realistically most of my me time is dedicated to music. While I'd like to read more books and watch more movies I find these art forms much harder to explore in depth for regular folks and thus I rarely come across something that I feel like I absolutely need to read/watch, whereas mindblowing music that you had no idea existed is just a click away and you can instantly listen to it and it doesn't even require 2 hours of free time you don't have to begin with. Going through 100 books/movies in hope that one of them will be great just seems much less affordable in every way. Fine art and the like is even worse.
A more personal reason is that since I work on a computer all day when I do get to do something else I like be able to close my eyes, and that makes a bit harder to watch a movie or read a book.

But, in the name of thread responsibility, you do have to.theplatypus wrote:I consume music much more frequently than any other art form, by virtue of its relative unobtrusiveness (it's easy to listen to music while performing myriad other tasks, while you can't really carefully watch a film while doing something else), but I am just as voracious in my love for film. If I had a gun to my head, I'd have to go with film. There's music in movies, so win-win!
