i actually downloaded that Bosse-de-Nage record last week. really like it so far.

Here's a few of the lesser known releases from 2012 that i've been listening to a lot lately. I could talk up the new Gojira, BTBAM, Meshuggah and Converge (which are all fucking awesome btw) but most people are already on that train. I'm not as good at tracking down full album streams as cono though

Cloudkicker - Fade http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/album/fade
Farsot - Insects http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vNTSIXjp4w
Winterfylleth - the Threnody of Triumph https://soundcloud.com/candlelight-reco ... hrenody-of
Downfall of Gaia - Suffocating in the Swarm of Cranes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx0jhbUbbqQ
Ahab - The Giant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WETwWI2CySU
Murder Construct - Results http://murderconstruct.bandcamp.com/

just discovered this monolithic piece of music yesterday after hearing it discussed in a podcast. ho-ly-fuck. if you like anything that falls under the doom/post-hardcore/post-metal umbrella give this a listen. the link skips to an ambient part that leads into a skull crushingly huge riff. but the full 70mins is there for the listening. it was released in 2010 i believe.

I'm not really a metal guy, but I've been digging Baroness since someone here recommended them a few years ago. Red and Blue are cool, but the latest had to grow on me. The more radio friendly vocals took some getting used to, but there are some great songs. The approach to interplay amongst the guitar parts shows growth, as well.

Any recommendations based on that?

Yellow & Green was a pretty big departure in a lot of ways, and it took me a while to lock into it too, but it ended up being one of my favorites from 2012.

One band you might check out is Summoner. I think I mentioned them in the old forum, but it is definitely worth checking out their newest album called Phoenix. It definitely has some similarities to Red/Blue era Baroness, and the whole album is packed with great riffs.

Another one of my favorite bands from last year (maybe it was late 2011) was Elder. These guys are young pups on the stoner/doom scene, but they are churning out some great stuff. They did an EP this year, I believe, but the last album Dead Roots Stirring is fantastic. I can't figure out the stupid Youtube link thing, so here is a direct link.

I can't stop listening to The Blue Record. I'm slightly embarrassed I only just got around to these guys. Thanks, MF!

I thought Let Yourself Be Huge was a good one, in a totally different style though.

i wasn't really into that one. i love Fade though. it's a pretty big departure but still heavy in places. definitely in my top 5 of 2012.

Yeah, Sentenced to Life is solid. MF: Check out the new Kowloon Walled City album called Container Ships. Has kind of an Isis vibe.

MF, your recommendations were excellent. I have enjoyed them all. High on Fire and Between the Buried and Me are my favorites so far. Is it just me or does Kylesa kind of sound like a metal version of Silver Sun Pickups?

I listened to Container Ships a few times. i think i made a post on the old board about not liking it all that much for some undefinable reason. all their records are the same for me. i should like it a lot but it just doesn't click for some reason.

nice 8-) . you could really go anywhere else in either band's catalogue and it's all fucking awesome.

Kylesa vs Silversun Pickups....interesting comparison. i'm not really familiar enough with that band to offer much insight. i know a couple songs and that's about it.

Thanks for the Elder recommendation, checking some of their stuff out now.

I really love that Kowloon Walled City album.
