I'm really lovin' the new album, especially Planetary Motion and Independence Street.

The truck that has been loaded with jagbags has been delayed this week in Indiana due to weather. Hopefully I'll hear this music soon. :(

I guess there's no Pavement thread. So...

Surprised by how many Pavement fans haven't seen Lance Bang's excellent documentary Slow Century.

Spiral's album "Doris & The Daggers" went largely unnoticed earlier this year, but it was pretty great.

Whoever wrote the OP to this thread really need hit the nail on the head re: Jicks records. Two gold stars for that guy. Solid take.

Not quite sure how I added the word "need" in that post through my phone.

Solid. It's very "Bowie" in sections.

He sings nothing like he did in Pavement, Preston School of Industry or even his first solo album.

Yeah, no.
I get liking Pavement better than SM's solo stuff, but what do you actually dislike about the latter?

I don't hate it. I have listened to every album several times and would still call SM one of my favorite songwriters.

But it has been disappointing.

Dry song structures and not nearly as playful. It's sterile.

What you call "silliness and immaturity" in your OP, I call broken brilliance.

Buried in the silliness of Pavement are incredible harmonies and hooks that sometimes take a few listens to reveal themselves.

There's not the sense of discovery with his solo output, it's all surface and obvious.

Points well taken. I regret that my OP gives off the impression that the melodies and structure of Pavement songs lack sophistication and nuance. There's something I'm trying to say here about wildness and unpredictability versus stability and getting to the point. Don't quite know how to phrase it, I guess.

I could give a shit if it's "sloppy." S&E through Brighten the Corners is an incredible string of albums.

"In the Mouth a Desert" is sheer perfection.

"Black Out" and "Grounded" are my favorites off WZ.
