i wonder if the movie's relation to capitalism is so obviously legible that reviewers felt compelled to talk about other stuff?

You're giving reviewers way too much credit. As usual, they're focusing on only the most obvious, superficial stuff (Network! Media! He's a sociopath!). They seem incapable of seeing the bigger picture.

Armond White is my favorite film critic of all time. Really, one of my favorite
writers of all time. I've gotten more insight and perspective from his work than from maybe any other writer.
