Re: Hardcore
I totally disagree with this, because I don't think blast beats are inherently aggressive, really. In fact, I think, when used properly, they can actually be very tranquil and rhythmic. Burzum is a perfect example of this. They create a flow beneath a song. I look at them as just another tool for creating sonic texture, no different than a guitar riff, a bass line, a vocal hook, or a guitar solo. They're an acquired taste, for sure, but I love them when a drummer really knows how to use them.Iprefertheiroldstuff wrote:Blast beats are the musical equivalent of a child kicking and punching the ground in a tantrum. Re: Hardcore
Oh, but that being said, I can still really dig them when they are used for pure violence, noise, and aggression. Noise is a beautiful thing. Perhaps Steve Albini said it best:
"I like noise. I like big-ass, vicious noise that makes my head spin. I wanna feel it whipping through me like a fucking jolt. We're so dilapidated and crushed by our pathetic existence we need it like a fix."

That Ajax is just blistering. Their demo is just as crucial.

Re: Hardcore
This should of been on my best of the year list, but I'm holding out for the LP to arrive to finally really listen to this beast.
