Re: Islam and the West
A very admirable statement by the Islamic Society of Britain, particularly in defending the right to publish material that is both offensive and in poor taste.

Fair play to them.
Britain too is going through a rough time with its own Muslims, some going east to join ISIS (of course they're getting the headlines) and an emerging new political radical right party, UKIP, who are all but outright racist, blaming everything possible on immigrants, but topping the polls in the run up to their elections there. It's a scary time in Europe. Good that the ISB released that statement in the face of a lot of the crap Muslims are getting there.

I think that might be altogether too dismissive of UKIP, though I'll admit I have a relatively threadbare knowledge of the specifics. I don't think questioning the benefits of large-scale immigration is necessarily racist and I understand their main platform historically has been to advocate for Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.

One of their guys said Cancer and aids were gods punishment on the world for gays. The leader of the party blamed the impossible traffic on a major route around London on immigrants. that's just two. There's a handful of cringe gaffs a week and has been for about a year. UKIP are trying to now present themselves as a version of the Tories but that will get shit done, close englands borders, stop immigration and leave europe. Fair enough on the surface of it, but do some reading on them and it gets ugly.
interesting take..
White people don’t like to admit it, but those cartoons upheld their prejudice, their racism, their political supremacy, and cut it how you will — images like that upheld a political order built on discrimination.
The Muslims today are a demonized underclass in France. A people vilified and attacked by the power structures. A poor people with little or no power and these vile cartoons made their lives worse and heightened the racist prejudice against them.
Even white liberals have acted in the most prejudiced way. It was as if white people had a right to offend Muslims and Muslims had no right to be offended?
After the massacre of 1000 Muslims by Egyptian dictator in a single day — the paper ran this headline “The Quran is sh*t it doesnt stop bullets” — Imagine if a Muslim paper did this about them now — still find it funny?

This guy? From what I'm able to tell, the party suspended him because of his views.dimejinky99 wrote:One of their guys said Cancer and aids were gods punishment on the world for gays.
The impression I get is that they're attempting to raise ideas in the public consciousness that have been studiously avoided by the major parties; their electoral success so far would seem to indicate that has resonated with the public to some extent.dimejinky99 wrote:Fair enough on the surface of it, but do some reading on them and it gets ugly.
They do seem to be attract a certain amount of idiots but, then again, they're hardly unique in that respect among political parties.
I'd rather deal see their ideas dealt with on their merits than try to measure their worth through the perceived intentions of their candidates or supporters.
Good grief.dimejinky99 wrote:interesting take..
I should sincerely hope that I won't ever have to live in a country where Muslims hold "political supremacy".dimejinky99 wrote:White people don’t like to admit it, but those cartoons upheld their prejudice, their racism, their political supremacy, and cut it how you will — images like that upheld a political order built on discrimination.

There's a lot I don't like about that column, but the biggest problem I have with it is his suggestion that Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens and other "New Atheists" are somehow pro-Israel and that fuels their "hatred" of Islam. Harris, in particular, obliterates Judaism on regular basis. And Hitchens had several heated debates with Rabbi Wolpe.cutuphalfdead wrote:http://www.middleeasteye.net/columns/why-i-dont-criticise-islam-1747762439

Stop asking Muslims to condemn terrorism. It's bigoted and Islamophobic.

Re: Islam and the West
So they have these two cornered in a warehouse and the hostage, who is a woman. The two have said they wont kill 'civilians or women'
Mobile phone service to the town has been cut off to prevent them being fed information from outside.
The two are saying they're ready to die as martyrs.
This wont end well. Hopefully they can get the hostage out safe n sound.

Apparently waiting for buses to take the school kids out of the area.
