Uh. David Letterman is and has always been the best there ever was. Of course I liked Craig Kilborn, too. ferguson, leno, and fallon are intolerable, and conan used to be ok but seems to have deteriorated. that or I just grew out of it.

I grew up watching Letterman, but I tried watching him last night and didn't make it through the monologue. It's pretty brutal, especially after Craig Ferguson's deconstruction.

Letterman used to be fantastic but he's sucked for years now.

Ferguson's whole show was essentially a deconstruction of a typical late night talk show, highlighting all the pretext and phoniness by stripping the elements down to their most fundamental absurdity. For example, often when referencing the weather during his monologue, Craig would ask his sidekick, "How hot is it, Geoff?" to which Geoff would respond, "It is so hot." without even adding a punchline (versus the multiple, ultra-lame weather-related punchlines I saw in Letterman's monologue just last night).

eh I find that ferguson mostly relies on crude/basic humour which I don't find progressive at all. Furthermore, it's been pretty clear for a long time that he's not even trying anymore. It's funny I still remember commenting on the board that it appears he hates the gig, and Chud was quick to tell me "no way." He announced his retirement a week later... Anyway, it's cool that you are getting something else out of it.

Yeah, but...the "not trying"/"not caring" thing is essential to the whole concept of the show. It's a huge part of what made it so funny, in my opinion.

Those kind of erroneous subtitles are always funny to me. But everyone who is doing them now is pretty obviously ripping off Tim and Eric.

Ferguson was still having fun. It's a shame the show ended now because his interactions with JRT as Geoffrey were really hitting stride the last year or two.

Letterman has been such a lazy old fart for years now. Just phoning it in. Cbs should have canned him years ago.
