Heard a track from Panda Bear's upcoming album that might be more your speed.
Oh yeah?
Possibly. I think you'd like the majestic vocals more than anything else. It just sort of unfolds and flows on headphones. Good winter music. Noah Lennox truly has a fantastic voice.

Perhaps an indicator of some activity on the band front? Panda's album has failed to make an impact on me thus far, so a new full-on AC album would be great.

Anyway, what we've got here is a split 'digital 12"' single featuring collage-type tracks. Side A is put together by Avey Tare and is kind of noisy and lo-fi with his vocals. Sounds pretty typical insofar as his solo stuff is concerned and fits right in with other more asbtract Animal Collective stuff. Side B is Geologist and it's quite a bit different. Smoother production with female vocals courtesy of Tickley Feather; it cycles through some interesting variations of ethereal and ambient electronic stuff. Would be a fantastic new palette if the full group decides to pick up on it.

It's a fun little tune that I imagine will be outshined by the album tracks. Interesting to see that Colin Stetson is credited as contributing saxophone to the album; I noticed he comes in late on this song.

Avey Tare and Panda Bear just work so well together. FloriDada is not super-great but it's a nice reminder of why I love Animal Collective so much. The charming playfulness, that chaotic energy and these two great vocalists playing off each other. It reminds me of songs like Who could win a rabbit, Purple Bottle and Peacebone. I could definitely see why someone would find songs like FloriDada annoying, though.
I'm excited to find out how all the other songs will sound and if FloriDada is the poppiest of the bunch. I'd have no problem with an album full of songs like this. Something more diverse would be better, of course.

I miss their coarse, harsh earlier stuff. Sung Tongs > Feels > Strawberry Jam is where it's at for me.

Feels and Strawberry Jam are what make me love Animal Collective. I'm also fond of MPP and CHz. Still not feeling the new one. :(

It's probably a bad idea for me to give much of an opinion after only one listen, but whatever. I thought it was pretty good, overall, though it will definitely need time and multiple listens to pick apart properly. It's about as busy as Centipede Hz, but more harmonious, which is probably that whole "short, pop song" thing they were going for.

The only tracks that didn't interest me at all on first listen were "The Burglars" and "Natural Selection." That means it kind of dips in the middle, but picks up nicely for the second half. I like the use of horns and woodwinds sprinkled throughout; definitely could have used more of that.

Watching a live video from 2006 reminded me how much I like "Street Flash" and that era of Animal Collective's work in general. I wondered what it would look like if I tried a top ten:

Fireworks
Street Flash
Chocolate Girl
Leaf House
Daffy Duck
For Reverend Green
Bluish
Fickle Cycle
Gotham
Bat You'll Fly
