Brave won for Best Animated Feature. Yuck. I love Pixar, but though it was well below their standards. Although those standards are starting to get questionable after this and Cars 2.

At least Paperman won best animated short. I haven't seen the other nominees, but Paperman was excellent.

Yeah? I've heard "Brave" was really good. Didn't see it myself.

My wife really liked Brave a lot. I haven't seen it. But she knows me pretty well and she said she thinks I'd really like it too.

Story kinda falls apart. And I didn't cozy up or get any of that Pixar warmth from the characters. It looked Pixar, but felt Disney.

Interesting.
Well, I'll check it out eventually, I'm sure. Too much on the plate right now. But I'll definitely let you know what I think once I've finally seen the thing. Not that my opinion matters. Just, you know, to compare notes.

I have ridiculously high standards for Pixar. The first half of WALL-E is one of my favorite movie experiences ever. EVER.

I feel the same about the first 20 minutes of Up.

Sure. But then that one kinda falls apart, too.

Up is gorgeous.

"Toy Story 3" may be my favorite Pixar movie. None other is as moving and consistent. "Wall-E" and "Up" are great but they both kinda lose it when the third act comes along.

Absolutely. But the parts with just WALL-E on the planet or with EVE are just magical.

Yeah it really was great. I agree with Jorge that both it and Up lose a bit late. I really felt that way the first time I watched them, but repeat viewings have made those elements more tolerable. The other parts are done so well I find myself being a bit forgiving, I suppose.

I've only seen each of them once. But I purchased Up. I imagine the replay value will be much higher. While the third act doesn't quite hold up to the first two, I still think it's a consistently excellent film. The third act is just an A- instead of an A+, for me.

I'm not a movie crier, but man that prologue gets me. The end is emotional as well.

My favorite moment of the telecast was Sandra Bullock shooing McFarlane off the stage like the talentless hack that he is.

I just don't think he's funny or talented, and he's talking shit about a room full of incredibly talented people. It's pretty obvious to me that he wants to be a Broadway star but will never have the ability to do it so he makes lame musical numbers about chicks' boobs. He wouldn't be as bad if the South Park guys didn't do what he does a million times better without all the fame whoring. I honestly just can't stand the dude. Billy Crystal earned his right to be a shitty Oscar host; McFarlane never did.

I'm just glad that Lenny is posting again
