It's got great energy. Not my taste all of the time but the performance/take sounds like a live band.

ReoSteveWagon wrote:GSMF is an exciting, dynamic balls-to-the-wall proto-punk rocker. It reminds me of The Who's best post-Tommy work. I don't care about the lyrics. And it really shouldn't be compared to "Life Wasted", which is as far from dynamic as can be.

I refer to a song as "dynamic" when there's a feeling that it isn't just a base four-chord rocker chugging along, when there are different clearly defined sections with different rhythms, when there's a buildup and a climax. I feel like GSMF was written as an attempt to emulate The Who's "The Real Me", maybe because of the band realizing that previous tour how much fun they were having playing it.

As to why it's "exciting", it has all to do with the performance. I like the guitar arrangements, I like the verse arpeggios and the bent E string in the chorus. I like Matt's playing that sounds slightly off-time but not quite (and again, I'm thinking this is an attempt at approximating Keith Moon or Pete Thomas' playing "under the beat" rather than on it). I really like Eddie's madman delivery. I think it's a great song.

And I've never even read the lyrics.
I AGREE WITH EVERY WORD
Me too, great write-up.
Me three, though I like "Life Wasted" fine. I am always encouraged anytime the board's general awareness of Pete Thomas increases.

Okay, yes, I'll also walk my enthusiastic agreement back slightly to note that I still enjoy Life Wasted too.

I think both songs have a genuine sense of drive and propulsion absent from many of the band's other recent rockers.

Voted for GSMF. This is another group of songs in this last round of voting that are mid to lower tier PJ. I actually don't hate Sirens though I know a lot here do. Both are ok songs, but GSMF is more fun to listen to, and is a decent enough rock song.
