Marquee Moon is so goddamn good. Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, the Clash, David Bowie, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, T. Rex, the Who.Self wrote:Could've posted just about any song off Marquee Moon, so I went with the first one.
The big names from the 1970s put up some really, really good shit (and some of them some really bad shit).

I really dig Paul Weller, I need to explore the Jam beyond my bargain best-of.

Any love for the James Gang?
This song just screams 70s to me. When I think 70s rock, this song always comes to mind:

Haven't got into their other stuff, but just when I was getting into vinyl I bought a scruffy used copy of Rides Again, on the strength of Funk 49 and Tend My Garden. Got it home and picked a few stems and seeds out of the sleeve and was kinda blown away with how great the whole album is.darth_vedder wrote:Any love for the James Gang?

Thanks for posting those vids Platy!
igb...those songs are great! That's exactly what I think of when I think 70's rock, good stuff.
What are y'alls thoughts on Queen? Like not the hits, but the albums, like 'Sheer Heart Attack"?

They are, along with the Band, quite a bit better than every other band mentioned in this thread. Their albums up til Hot Space are all solid, then they got too soft rock-y, but they still put out a few quintessential tunes per album.darth_vedder wrote:What are y'alls thoughts on Queen? Night At The Opera is as good as any album ever, Day At the Races isn't far behind.

Clearly you didn't read my post with the best bands of the decade on this very page. Because just about all of them are better than Queen and the Band's post-1970 work.Oh, Jimmy wrote:They are, along with the Band, quite a bit better than every other band mentioned in this thread.darth_vedder wrote:What are y'alls thoughts on Queen? Yeah, I actually did and agreed. I thought the point of the thread was to talk about bands that probably weren't gonna generate enough interest for their own threads.Gods' Die wrote:Clearly you didn't read my post with the best bands of the decade on this very page. Ah. I was wondering how you could think that Queen was better than Bowie (or some of the others) unless you hadn't seen my post.Oh, Jimmy wrote:Yeah, I actually did and agreed. The 1970s were an all right decade for music.
