Obviously bands that formed after the members met at bandcamp. Only overnight bandcamps count otherwise it's just band lessons and no one wants to hear that.

No idea.
I just figure this is where we post good bands that use bandcamp.
I don'd know what bandcamp is. I could google it, but I prefer the back and forth that a message board inquiry affords me.

Its a really good tool for bands to post audio files and independently sell records and promote shows. Its pretty easy to setup and great way to listen to new stuff without purchasing blindly or venturing into that slop that is myspace.

As this things often go, as soon as I ask about something, I see it pop up more and more. Just today a very good Austin band called The Sour Notes tweeted that they are offering their cover of Harvest Moon for free on, you guessed it, Bandcamp.
I recommend that everyone give this at least one good spin.

Just had this up and the thread bumped.
Heat Dust. They're from New Orleans, sounds pretty similar to Torche, but its okay. Seriously. Heavy and melodic, world needs more of this stuff.

Inspired by trag and steve albini's recent conversations about streaming platforms, I think I'm ready to embrace bandcamp as my primary music discovery venue.
Who here uses bandcamp with enough frequency to suggest optimal ways of using the platform for good? I'm interested in connecting with real people for real music connections through bandcamp or adjacent substack recommendations.

The daily section
https://daily.bandcamp.com/ has lists, features, and album of the day sections.
It's a good place to start.
I often head over to Bandcamp just to check if music I've liked from other blogs is available from the artists directly, specially on Bandcamp Fridays

Hey, thanks buby.
I read that bandcamp was acquired in 2022. A few years in, have you noticed any enshitification? I assume you're a long time user.

Yup, been using it for a good while now.
No major enshitification to report; I do feel that the blog section was way more active but that might just be me.
I don't have the player app installed, I mostly purchase vinyl that include digital downloads and I keep those in my car's USB and HD at home.

Pleasure!
I do stream stuff on YouTube and Apple, it helps with the new music discovery.

oh look at that, thanks man! I should probably spend more time utilizing it as a band.....
Well, between instagram/bandcamp, you can really "get to know" bands quite a bit more. it breaks down a lot of the barriers and removes the algorithmic BS that we are oversaturated with. On most artists profiles you see a "community" Section as well which kind of works like an instagram feed. Bandcamp is easily searchable for various genres and has similar "for fans of" types of suggestions. Also, everyone who is on bandcamp is there to FIND good music and is on similar discovery paths and really want to support musicians/bands.
Im getting all weepy. I feel a spurt coming!

So I just made a bandcamp purchase...for the wrong item.
This is not Australian jazz group The Necks
It was a name your price thing, just purchased to get a feel for the bandcamp UI more than anything. Good guitar on here, but yeah. Classic b, somehow.
