Yoda had to work pretty hard to lift that x-wing, and if someone was sitting in the cockpit they could have just shot him while he was doing it.

Yoda was 900 years old. Wiping his ass was probably a challenge, if he even bothered. You're changing the scenario anyway. Smaug is not a Luck Dragon - no one is riding him. He's not going to be spitting fire with a force dick in his mouth either.

You must have meant constrict, not construct. But yeah, I think he has that kind of strength. He was tearing Cloud City apart while he fought Luke.

He was picking up some spare boxes and lose piping. that may have been more about Lando's shoddy contractors than Vader's power. That was basically a pissed off spouse throwing shit at her husband, minus the hands. Hardly tearing cloud city apart. Whereas Smaug did single handily level a kingdom and a town.

pretty sure a force thrown light saber wouldn't have any trouble penetrating smaug's scales

And while it could cut him, would it kill him? The lightsabers can cut through armor, but not super quickly. that's why luke just didn't slice the legs out from underneath the At-At's at Hoth. This might just piss smaug off, and we know vader's armor burns pretty easily, since luke melted it on his little ewok campfire.

Both are actually largely ineffective in their respective movies, so lets also assume we're talking about each in their prime.

I don't think he saw the arrow. Plus they made a big deal about how special that arrow was. Maybe it doesn't burn or something?

But that's irrelevant. The fact that he didn't doesn't mean he can't.

you're assuming he'd see the light saber coming? furthermore, the arrow shot was lucky, where as vader would use the force to ensure that the light saber was a direct hit.

that is a good point. But would smaug have already melted him by then?

Also, you assume that Vader knows about Smaug's weak spot. Is that a safe assumption? Smaug didn't know about his own weak spot, so it's not like Vader could have sensed it from his thoughts.

Darth Vader would use a Tie Fighter and win in an air-to-air battle with Smaug.

Tie Fighters don't have the most accurate weapons, and if Smaug collided with one he's gonna come out ahead.

in fact, I think vader's chances are worse in a tie fighter.

vader would trash Bard the Bowman, who killed smaug. I'm not sure if that's relevant.
