Mike's girl songs mix was quite a pleasant listen. I tended to like the more electronic stuff and the songs with elaborate arrangements more than the rock stuff. So Joanna Newsom, Susanne Sundfør, and Hop Along, for example. I had heard "Sapokanikan" before and I did give one listen to the full album, but I think I can only appreciate Newsom in a one song at a time setting, rather than a whole album. Again, as to the mix as a whole, probably not anything I would seek out on my own, but enjoyable overall.

Downloading yours as we speak. Will take a while until I write something about it because of uni stress but I will listen to it today. Downloaded dogofthetemple's mix as well. I already know most of the songs on ridleybradout's mixtape.

Ridleybradout's mix is a kaleidoscope of pop, touching on blues rock, punk, psychedelic, orchestral lounge, and synthpop to name just a few genre signifiers. I like the stretch of Tame Impala through CHVRCHES. The Tame Impala track in particular was a nice discovery; I really like the mood on that one.
The one moment that I really did not enjoy was Hozier's "Take Me to Church." I'm familiar with the song, having heard it a lot on the radio over the last year. I've never really liked it, but overexposure to it has totally soured me on the song (it's also from 2014, but late in the year, so we can let that slide). Though to be honest, I find the entire second half of the mix to be weaker and less interesting than the first. It's got its moments, such as the bridge in the Foals song and some of the arrangement elements of the Blur track, but the most of the rest tends toward tepid.
One last thing to point out for Brad: the tracklisting on the back cover doesn't match what's actually presented. Built to Spill appears ahead of Jim O'Rourke in the running order, but it's switched on the artwork.

I wasn't expecting to like much of SNC's mix, and I guess I wasn't disappointed. Way outside my wheelhouse with this one, but the second half was far more listenable than the first. Thigh Master, Salad Boys, and Wildhoney were actually pretty good on the whole.
More disappointing was the fact that SNC couldn't be bothered to change the tagging on his songs to make them play in the intended order. While tedious, but ultimately painless, to do on my own, it evokes a sense of carelessness towards the quality of assembly.

Cheers for the feedback Brett and for picking up on that artwork glitch
Glad you enjoyed the mix, 'Let It Happen' is my favourite song of the year and possibly the decade so far, can't get enough of it

Oh kiss my ass.
I didn't even know that would be a problem, sorry. I thought if you dropped the playlist flie in whatever you were using, it would put everything in order. Yeah, after Lumpy the mix gets more "rm friendly". Thanks for giving it a shot though.
My goal with the first half was to give Stip an aneurysm.

I did try to play the .m3u in VLC, but it threw an error at me for some reason. I figured it should've worked, but it didn't. Like I said, not a huge problem, but presentation y'know?

I apologize if I offended. It was only meant to be a bit of good-natured ribbing, but I may have failed at accurately conveying my tone.
At the least, your mix is commendable for being unique and bringing in a highly developed esoteric sense of taste. I like checking these things out because I'm well aware that I inhabit a very insular listening space and this gives me a chance to venture beyond my personal sphere and experience a portion of the wider musical landscape.

Crossing dogofthetemple's mix off my list. Nothing of particular import to report from this one. Your standard indie rock with some college rock and grunge holdovers playlist. Marriages at least perked up my ears, and I did like the beginning of the Chris Cornell song before it went full on over-arranged carefully calculated pop. As with most of these mixes I've listened to thus far, nothing really struck me as bad, it just isn't all that compelling.

It should probably go without saying that my mix is going to be a little...
different from what other people have been posting. Anyway, here you go...
I edited all the songs into one continuous MP3 to get the best transitions and volume consistency possible.

I don't know why, but I didn't really like Mike's full-size mix. Perhaps it was too long? Maybe it was too similar to his Girl Songs mix, since it had many of the same artists? I had a hard time trying to pay attention to it, though, that I do know. My VLC player apparently wasn't too reverent about it either, playing the tracks in a random order for some reason until the last few. Surprisingly, of the songs I didn't know, the Carly Rae Jepsen tune stood out the most to me. I kinda liked what was going on with the saxophone synth patch or whatever that was at the beginning of the song.
Turned2black's mix had a strong starting set. I've heard the Caspian song before, on Burt's mix and on their KEXP session, and while I'm not really into it, it's an enjoyable enough song and works well in this mix. Never heard Metz or Young Fathers before, but those were also good songs, and the Chvrches track tied it together nicely. From there it sort of faded in interest, though. The Margot & The Nuclear So and So's track wouldn't play, but I don't think it would have mattered much. I looked it up on Youtube and was indifferent.

Aw, too bad. I was wondering if I should repeat myself but in the end I wanted the big mix to just represent my whole year. Strange thing about the track order, I think my mp3tags should be correct. That Carly Rae song is great.
Good job reviewing all the stuff in here. I totally appreciate it and will return the favor, I'm just still too swamped.

Yeah, Margot's Spotify offerings completely changed over the weekend.

No rush, my friend, you've got important stuff to take care off. I have too much time on my hands besides looking for work after moving. As for the repeated artists, it makes sense, as that's the stuff you enjoyed the most this year which is the whole point of this thing. I just find it kind of odd that I was so blasé about it when I really enjoyed your first mix.
