That's pretty on. the 'story solos' have a tone to them that don't make them easily transferable to other songs. You could lift the brain of J solo and drop it into MYM, and vice versa, and it would have been fine.tragabigzanda wrote:There are basically two kinds of PJ solos: the ones that tell a story, and the ones that are just a blur of energy and could be easily replaced with a different solo.
Story solos include NAIS, Immortality, Alive, etc.
The energy ones are Brain of J, Do the Evolution, MYM, etc.
Discuss.
I'm assuming you mean this one:cutuphalfdead wrote:Play the video.E.H. Ruddock wrote:My opinion cannot be changed.cutuphalfdead wrote:Do I have to post the video again?E.H. Sad and Ghost are both good ones. I don't really care for the overly 'lyrical' solos, though. They feel....tepid to me, I guess. Like, with NAiS, I love the sound of it and the production and the atmosphere etc, but the playing itself sounds like Dave Gilmour not really caring about some friend's track he's guesting on. Live versions of that song are just awful to me, because the writing/soloing suffers from being divorced from that canvas.LetMeSleep wrote:I'm pretty sure I agree with you as moments like the solos in Ghost, SoLaT, Sad or even Brain of J are much more appealing to me than an Even Flow or MYM or LB.McParadigm wrote:Sleight of Hand? I dunno.
I don't really care for their solos, so I prefer when they either skip them or use them as sort of interludes. The more "rock solo" it gets, the more unremarkable it becomes.
In the true solo sense then Alive, Immortality, NAIS are great and immediately came to mind.
I think those two are on to something.E.H. Ruddock wrote:mehBirds in Hell wrote:It is the very best.cutuphalfdead wrote:Stone's Brain of J solo beats many of Mike's solos.
