While I'm grateful for the mostly positive reviews I've heard, I just want to let you all know that what's out there is a shitty transcoded leak that sounds like absolute garbage compared to what we will be releasing. All of the promo CDs are watermarked, so somebody ripped it to mp3 and then ripped those mp3s to mp3 to get rid of the watermark information so we can't track down who leaked it. Leaks are an unfortunate inevitability with new records these days, so I'm not super bummed about the leak in and of itself, but it does break my heart that what is out there is such horseshit. I downloaded the leak and could tell the difference even on my shitty computer speakers.

I've heard that supposed "poor" version of the album and honestly that's the least of my problems with it. Granted that was one listen last night so maybe a listen of the actual album will change my mind.

My vinyl pre-order arrived in the mail yesterday and I gave it the proper listening treatment with a good set of headphones. I love that these guys aren't just sitting back and cranking out Soft Bulletin style "hits". You can tell that they took their time with this album and wanted to make something challenging... something that you have to pay attention to and fully absorb rather than just a collection of songs that could be interchangeable as far as sequencing is concerned. I'm probably wrong, but after Embryonic, all of last years experiments and now The Terror I think it's safe to say the Lips are going to continue down this more sinister path for a while. I'm seeing them with The Black Keys next month, and for the first time since I first saw them back in the early 00's I can honestly say that I have no idea what to expect, which is nice.

I haven't given the Flaming Lips discog enough listenning time and should remedy that. I caught them on Letterman the other night though and really enjoyed the performance, esp. the drums.

I'll have to check this out.

I have to be honest, I got into the lips back in 99 when the soft bulletin came out, loved yoshimi and mystics, but the last album(not counting the 2012 friends release) and the terror have been just too fucking weird for me. I only like two tracks on here, the opening one and Butterfly. Am I the only one?

I don't really think it's weird, it's just a bit too long and boring. Cool sound but yeah, drags on a bit.

finally checking out The Terror today... about halfway through and really digging it so far. i don't know how it ends, but for some reason the initial feeling I had was similar to the feeling I had the first time I listened to Beck's "Sea Change"

Seriously? That's enough to make me want to listen to the album again. Sea Change blew me away the first time I heard it since I was expecting something like Odelay.

It's not that it sounds like it, but it's just the mood compared to the albums leading up to this, and the shift in the band's frame of mind for this album
