I mostly find big monsters fighting other big monsters kinda boring (see Godzilla, Pacific Rim, Transformers). Is that not what this is?

The monsters are background to the story. Not in it much at all.

I immediately saw that map and wondered why they don't just take a boat to America. It's thoughts like this that really got in the way of pacific rim.

Look I don't know if it is your thing or not. But it isn't a movie about giant monsters, if that is what you think. Like I said, those are background noise to the main story. I know LV is gonna hate me for telling you that, but it is true. It is a wonderful movie.
