I can't fathom condemning these guys for "not sounding like they used to". They beat that sound to death. This is good stuff.

Angles above First Impressions? Which brand of glue is your go-to?

I'll have to get back to you on this. I've rinsed Comedown Machine many times in the past days, and Room on Fire follows that in the library. I haven't revisited much else, although Is This It sits at immortal status.

Im all for the strokes not sounding like they did 10 years ago but im having a hard time really getting on board with their current recordings. I am jsut not picking up what they are laying down. There is some really interesting guitar shit going on but the melodies aren't jumping out at me and Julian being almost inaudible... Other than few tracks here and there (two kinds of happiness being my favorite!) Im just not feeling it.

Julian has definitely taken on an almost nonchalant role on some songs, but I honestly believe it adds to the charm. They have always been a band who inadvertently vocalizes being behind on laundry and pushing quarters into shitty pin-ball machines. This is The Strokes, brah.

Haven't given the new album much of a chance. Listened to Angles instead, and holy shit why didn't I like this sooner?

The first half and the closer are all great. I only recently got into the Strokes in any meaningful way, and I'm pretty sick of Room on Fire.

As it stands right now, this will be the first Strokes album that I don't purchase. I've streamed it through Spotify a few times, and I've just having trouble finding anything that really excites me here. I don't need them to keep revisiting a sound they were pumping out ten years ago, but nothing here really sticks with me. I don't hate any band trying a new direction, but I am just not a fan of where they went on this album. I may sit this one out.

Comedown Machine is an obvious ode to Bush's Sixteen Stone
