Tough one between BRY and Dead Man. I'm going BRY today, but would certainly feel differently on another day.

Kevin Davis wrote:"Dead Man" and "BRY" are opposite sides of what was so great about Eddie's songwriting in 1995-6 -- a droning, low-pitched ballad and a fuzzy, lo-fi garage rocker. Tough match but I've gotta go with "Dead Man" for being the better raw compisition. "Speed of Sound" is okay but not in the same league.
I might like Speed of Sound more than Dead Man. I'll have to think on it. Either way, all three are really good songs.

Are you guys on fucking crack? "Dead Man", very easily. BRY is a throwaway track.

Very tough call between BRY and Dead Man. They are so different that it's hard to compare them. I'll go with BRY.

theplatypus wrote:"Dead Man" is probably Ed's best "moody" song. Something like "Speed of Sound" comes off as completely plastic in comparison. "Black Red Yellow" is great, but I gotta go with "Dead Man".
This, despite Ruddo's threats of violence.

Dead Man big time. I was never a huge fan of Black Red Yellow (something about the melody and the double-tracked vocals was too grating to me, I think).

Dead Man for me too, though I really like Speed of Sound.
BRY never grabbed me in the same way that the band's other garage rockers from that period do.

I don't hate SOS like many here, but I do think it's a "close but not quite there" song. There are some decent ideas, and I think had they ventured a little more down the alt country road with it, it could have been a pretty good song. As it is, I think it's just in the middle, meaning I don't hate it, and I don't love it.
