I used to have a mandoline but always felt worried around it.
I have an all purpose kitchen knife from Martin Yan and it has served me well over the years.
But back to the topic of this fine thread, if you drape a tortilla over two rungs of your oven rack and then let the sides hang down and bake, they make a perfect taco shell. (Add olive oil lightly before baking in oven).

I bet it'd work well with scallops, but I wouldn't try any other seafood.
Scallops are exactly what I was thinking, too. Maybe some watermelon radish... I may need a mandoline more than I thought.

Greedo, I admire the spirit behind that tortilla hack, but where I come from crispy tacos take a back seat to soft ones.

I actually think I've tried that crock pot trick before on doug's recommendation.

Oh I agree. I like tortillas over hard shells any day.
I'm a corn tortilla guy myself, actually. I just thought it was an interesting tip for the average joe.

No better vessel to deliver some shredded pork in my opinion

I did this once with a roast but the flavor was too strong. I guess either I didn't cook long enough or used the wrong coffee.

No, but it'd still make for a rad breakfast.
Alan's psychedelic breakfast, indeed.

if you bake a lot like we do, grating a frozen stick of butter sure does the trick...add it to flour etc...also works when your butter is too cold to spread on toast or whatnot

I wouldn't go with a tablespoon.
