Re: I'm writing a Pearl Jam poem: What to include?

Whatever else was in there, I always got a bit of playful adolescent nihilsm from Nirvana...maybe it dissipated over time, but it seemed to keep them from just being pouty or something. Pearl Jam, even when they were playful, never quite had abandon.griffinxi wrote:Not sure if I could approach this task without actually addressing both bands.
Pearl Jam's importance to me as a young listener was about intimacy and identity. They had a rawness to them, but they also had the capacity to soar. Nirvana sounded like dangerous hoodlums to my unwise ears-- there was a lot of punk rock aesthetic that I had not yet metabolized as a kid and couldn't make sense of. Break stuff. Scream. When Eddie screamed there was life in it. Cobain screamed and it sounded like agony.
Another poet is addressing Nirvana on the next page. My poem can represent Pearl Jam's yin to Nirvana's yang but I can't mention the other band; or rather, I think doing so would dilute the impact of the poem.griffinxi wrote:Not sure if I could approach this task without actually addressing both bands.

Good call. I always thought the structure of that song was quite poetic.dimejinky99 wrote:Wishlist
I'd love to see a Eddie Vedder vs. Kurt Cobain rap battle.knee tunes wrote:do a mock pearl jam vs. nirvana stand off thing, as if the bands were talking/fighting/rap or/and battling of the bands-ing with each other...But the "dialogue" could only be lines from their songs, or obvious elements from lines of their songs.
Did they ever have a Celebrity Deathmatch?KurtLeon wrote:I'd love to see a Eddie Vedder vs.
