There's definitely a bunch of times he's blanked on the lyrics.

I'm not convinced he isn't blanking on the lyrics in the studio cut

I mean that vocally he sounds as great as ever. But I’ve never seen or heard him screwing up the lyrics

Release is the most special PJ song to me. I love it dearly. Actually, it probably means more to me than any other song, period.

Jesus man. I just read your post. I’m glad you’re ok. Look after yourself won’t you?

Thanks, dime. I’m doing well in recovery so far. I’m thankful to still be here for sure.

He fucked it up on 8/30/00, the first time I got to hear it live.

He screws up the high part at the end pretty much every time post '94.

Is that screwing it up though if he does it every time? Maybe he's just changed it.

This was the first song that meant “everything” to me. I’ve loved it since I was 12 years old. I fell in love with it again today.

Not a video of the actual performance (just audio), but this is the definitive version in my opinion.

Gulp, one of the great joys of staying on this board for --- shoot, maybe 15 or 16 years now --- is discovering stuff like this. I had never heard this version, so thanks for sharing. That is quite a version there and goosebumps are there.

I still prefer the Soldier Field '95 version - his voice is just insane and you can maybe chalk that up to nostalgia, too, that was one of the first good boots :)

Solider Field is up there for me too, but I've always preferred the power and control of his 98-06 voice to the earlier days. Honestly, most performances of this song are good.

That Kansas City '03 version posted above is my favorite version by a mile. Man, I just love the sound of the band from that whole '98-'03 period.

*I see I said the same thing 3 years ago. Oh well, bears repeating I guess. Great version.

That KC version is very good, as is Soldier Field.

I’d throw San Fran ‘06 in the ring too. Always liked that one.

also, agree with KD. Hard to beat that run on how well they played 98-‘03.
