Let's all laugh at Rangers wrote:There's an interview on Youtube, it's in 3 parts I think. It's the one where he compares Pearl Jam and U2 gigs. The thing that strikes me from the interview is that he seems so, well, Pearl Jam. It's just hard to imagine there being any sort of political clash...

Why put all the effort into making a physical record? He should just get his music out there digitally and try and play some shows.

Dave posted a pic of him and Shawn Smith. Says they are working on songs. Shawn is supposedly broke so he was probably a pretty easy mark for our drummer hero.

he should invite other PJ side project people to come play

and then eventually members of PJ will want to come jam

and eventually Ed

and then one day; he will ask Stone to take Ed to breakfast

I'll always be, first and foremose, a Jack Irons man. But Dave brought such a smoother vibe to that band, almost like a blend of Jack's looser dynamics with Matt's control of rhythm and time.

I dunno, man... I wouldn't say Dave did anything like Jack. Jack had no power, no nuances (ex:Dave's cymbal play), and perpetually played what seemed nearly out of time. Willie Nelson's guitar playing comes to mind in a similar way. Songs like Why Go and Whipping were painful to hear Jack play after being spoiled by Dave's powerful punch! Don't get me wrong, I loved Jack's floor toms and trash can lid crash, but he and Dave were nothing alike. Matt's early pj sound, when he actually had creative fills, were more on par with Dave, as was his punch.

Dave was his own animal, though, and no other pj drummer ever has come close to recreating that sonic boom from behind the kit.

Most songs back that time .....man....they peaked before the emotional crescendo of the song. That wasn't all Dave because it was how they all approached their instruments. Like wild animals.

This could be a language issue but i still stand by my point and dont forget i fucking loved his drumming.

You're right... I was comparing his play to the album versions of Ten songs... He changed the sound quite a bit, and for the better, imo. I'm still in awe of his Unplugged performance, and at Pinkpop in '92, the Atlanta '94 show (speaking of which, maybe I'm wrong, but that version of Black seemed pretty nuanced to me).

I love Dave A and Pearl Jam with him. Im not denying that.

Man those years were great...sometimes i wonder if the band could deliver a No Code or Yield with him..who knows? I would love to have more music from pj with him for sure.

Funny how Matt Cameron, one of the greatest rock and roll drummers of a generation, a Hall of Famer with two separate bands, guest drummer on national late night shows, etc... etc..., is only the third best drummer that has been with Pearl Jam. And he's been in the band almost twenty years, whereas the the two best drummers were in the band only 3 years each. Pretty funny

Technical skill doesn't amount to much if your stylistic approach isn't compatible with the rest of the band.
