This was a clear 5 star song for me at one time. It has since dropped to a 4. The vocal performance is still as mind-blowing as ever. The music, though, has not aged well for me...

I was once where you were, Habitman. Fortunately I've seen the error of my ways.

I like to think of this song as proto-Emo

kind of like Black but in a different way

The guitars near the end sound like the Velvet Underground. Rare form.

Always loved this one. I do agree, the studio version is hard to top and the post jack/2000 tour versions are one of those that for me, on the boot, the jam does nothing, in the moment, I can live with it, but it's not the highlight of any show. Great memories of college me driving from Dayton to Hiram (and vice versa) by myself and absolutely belting out "SAAAAAWWWW THIIIIIIINGGGGS SOOOOOO MUCH CLEARER"..... Good times.
The thing I remember most about this song that blew me away was when I realized/found out that this was connected to Daughter. Kind of made me appreciate Daughter a little more as well....

I love that this song (in combination with "Daughter") are essentially about escaping abuse; PJ rarely reach that much emotional weight anymore

Isn't this the song where Dave A throws his sticks at the end of the song cause Brendan O'Brien pissed him off?

Haven't listened to the studio version in a long time

The live version from the Dissident single is my favorite version of this song.

Still 5 stars for me.

I guess I'm one of the few that love it both in studio and live.

And, I have no problem with the fact that RVM became a completely different song when they incorporated the jams. I actually thought the Sonic Youth inspired jams in 2000 were a highlight at every show it was played at. They were atmospheric, chaotic, and yet tight. And, they were never the same. The jams did get a bit lazy after 2003.

It's my ex-wife's favorite song. I don't hate my ex-wife so I don't hate RVM. 5 stars.

I felt that way for a decade and a half and barely listened to it. It’s made a resurgence in my esteem.

yeah, the sticks at the end are awesome on the studio version. i think atlanta 94 is my favorite version. its been one of pearl jam's best songs since its release. eddie vedder at his finest.

And, yet Stip continually refers to Better Man as Betterman.

Probably a Classic B, but today I learned that the drumsticks at the end are Dave throwing his sticks at the wall because he was fucking sick of the recording process.

33 1/3: Pearl Jam's Vs. by Clint Brown lee

FYI, I listened to the song today.

And apparently Dave threw the snare down into a valley.

That would be my number one PJ artifact to own.
