I like to post here because it moves a little slower than the official message board and it seems like the good ideas and the good things about this kind of community fall through the cracks less. The flip side of that is that the other stuff, the negative, the stuff that will someday come off as humor to me (?) sticks around just as long.
I post the most on a New Orleans Saints message board called, Saints Report. It is one of the best message boards on the internet. I was thinking for the last few minutes about the negative on SR and the negative on RM. On SR, each poster seems to have a player that they cant stand. Someone that they love to poor it on every time they make a mistake or otherwise. In all my years posting over there the best example is Aaron Brooks. Brooks had a ton of talent and showed flashes as a potential star in the league. He was also incredibly stupid, very aloof, and potentially the wrong color for a number of the posters on SR. Brooks got killed constantly and it didn't get any better when Jake Dellhomme moved on and lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl. When JD was in New Orleans he backed up Brooks and everyone was sure he could do a better job than AB and they were probably right.
Maybe here Matt Cameron/Jack Irons is similar. First, AB isn't even in the same world as Matt Cameron but play along with me. I was thinking, ever since Drew Brees/Sean Payton came to New Orleans in 2006 we never talk about AB or JD anymore. Maybe this new Pearl Jam album can be the Drew Brees that some of the Pearl Jam "fans" need around here.
In the spirit of fitting in I will tell this hilarious joke. I don't really like "The End" I wanted to like it but it bores me and I usually skip passed it if it comes up on my iPod.

By the way, what the fuck does "This board seems to be a troll fest anymore" mean? That "sentence" makes my brain vomit.

It's the worst. I assumed he was drunk posting.

I am also baffled by the title of the thread. I think some of the words are out of order. Drunk posting is a strong possibility.

this seems to be a difficult board. A lot of people get really angry when you want to discuss your love for PJ. I dont know why, but i dont care anymore.
I do like the movies threads and some other bands discussions, specially with posters like Matt Reeder, Washing Machine, etc..

The is probably the most negative post of the new board era.

I've run out of things to say about PJ until a new album hits, positive or negative.

I've been posting here since around 2005 and still noody knows who the fuck I am. I'm fine with it. Generally I enjoy reading threads by the folks who spend a lot of time here. The humor is pretty top notch at the root of it.
Trolling seems pretty calculated. Some day I'll choose an avatar and join the race but until then fuck it

The tone of the board probably changed around 2006ish. Before and around then the board was at its peak with consistently solid and interesting song of the months, and some of the guided tour threads. There were some great posters (Ike Turner, SLH) who made interesting discussions, and really helped RM become a healthy alternative to the Tenclub forum.

That's because back then Pearl Jam were still a good band that people liked.

I always view this place as that bar in Star Wars where Luke and Obi Wan meet Han Solo and Chewy. This is the place where the wise cracking, criminal type, outcast Pearl Jam fans are. If something leaks you can always come here and find it. Every once in a while you feel like chopping some asshole's arm off though. I think the name should be changed to the Mos Eisley Red Mosquito Forum...
Mos Eisley Red Mosquito Forum: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Brainof23 wrote:The worst thing I have noticed since I have been posting is how rude people can be to you if they feel like it. I was having fun in the create a concept album thread. I would throw a song out here and there. One time I had the last song so it was on me to create a new category. I threw out "music by canadian bands" I didn't strain to think about the next great thread idea. I just threw something out. For the first time in about 40 lists, some asshole says the category sucks and starts his own. It was rude, and a turn off. Not the way to create a community.
I never had a problem with people bitching about the band. I could always defend us as "the free speech board." People can speak openly about not liking aspects of the band and still be Pearl Jam fans.
But when everyone starts being an asshole to board members for their own amusement no one wants to post anymore, and the enjoyment one can draw from the board disintegrates quickly.

I agree that people should be free with their opinion of the band and the music. I don't expect everyone to feel the same way as I do about everything. That would make this boring.
I just don't understand the volume of the negativity and the anger and dislike towards the band. If a band hasn't done anything I like since the end of the 2003 tour then I would stop posting on fan communities dedicated to them. Still, there is a fine line there.
The mean spirited stuff might be a part of the culture I just don't understand yet but It might be something that will turn some off right away and make them quit posting/lurking.

You don't just immediately disconnect from a band whose first ten years had a profound impact upon you especially through those critical 16 - 21 years of age.
Internet forums aren't the best place to be if you're a bit sensitive in general though. I've been on much more negative forums than RM.
