They can’t check your phone if you don’t have one.

So, for example, electronics shipped to Argentina in 2015 usually spent at least a week in customs, but sometimes up to a month, and then you might have to pay import duties on topmeatwad wrote:They can’t check your phone if you don’t have one.

It’s not practical for everyone sure, but if you’re coming here for school or whatever, and there’s a good chance you’re going to be hassled based on where you’re from, seems easier to leave the phone behind/ship it/get a new one when you get here than to not be allowed in.Mickey wrote:So, for example, electronics shipped to Argentina in 2015 usually spent at least a week in customs, but sometimes up to a month, and then you might have to pay import duties on topmeatwad wrote:They can’t check your phone if you don’t have one.

I dunno man I get the impulse but I don't think shipping a phone from Pakistan to the United States is going to earn you less scrutiny. I definitely think traveling without a phone is a good idea if you're planning to settle there for a while. Of course they can also ask you to open your computer so this thing can start to snowball.meatwad wrote:It’s not practical for everyone sure, but if you’re coming here for school or whatever, and there’s a good chance you’re going to be hassled based on where you’re from, seems easier to leave the phone behind/ship it/get a new one when you get here than to not be allowed in.Mickey wrote:So, for example, electronics shipped to Argentina in 2015 usually spent at least a week in customs, but sometimes up to a month, and then you might have to pay import duties on topmeatwad wrote:They can’t check your phone if you don’t have one.

Good point. They're going to get what they want one way or another I suppose.

I have work colleagues who, when entering the US, now travel with wiped laptops. They just have the SOE loaded and then work off the cloud whilst in country, before re-wiping for exit.
It's not company policy or anything, usually just the guys who are involved in security or sensitive info. Not sure what they are doing about their phones.
