Yep. The lasers were the deciding factor for me. I kinda hate all these songs.
Lasers, tasers, of gtfo.
Can someone point me towards the laser sound? At what point in the song is this?

No, no one can point you toward them because they are not there. There are no lasers in Speed of Sound.

"Speed of Sound" always struck me as somewhat awkward -- the musical pieces just don't really fit together for me, it's like pieces of two separate songs that are jammed together without much cohesion (or, "not particularly rhythmic things that butt up against each other in a not especially cool way"). I like it fine, but the demo version is better, and I've never heard the lasers either.
"The End" is pretty, and I feel like if it came across as profound and heartfelt as it aimed to, it would easily be the best song on "Backspacer." But Eddie's just never really been able to push these sentimental acoustic ballads past a certain threshold -- he feels like he's writing in a mold that's not entirely his.
"Force of Nature" is one of my favorite latter-day PJ songs. I get the accusations of it being a sort of generic midtempo modern-rock track, but underneath that I think it's a really catchy song with a strong melody and a storyline that seems obvious but that I can't quite put my finger on.

Well put. Great observation.

That's still not a laser.

It's a flangey type thing. It's not like a "pew pew" type of laser. It's a weird flange effect.

Force of Nature. I can't believe the other two songs would even be considered.

I'm not championing it, I just think the other two are a lot worse.
