Honestly, most songs sound awful live. Their live guitar tone is an abortion.

Push Me Pull Me.
There was a couple of okay Satans Beds back in 2006? I feel like that's one if they played it more it would get tighter, then wed all get sick of it.
For the most part though I'll take live music over studio music from just about any artist. Even the trainwrecks like Satans Bed from State College 2003

I just love hearing songs evolve live. Ive probably heard 30 different versions of Voodoo Child from Hendrix, just hearing where hed take it from one night to the next. From the Royal Albert Hall 69 version that merged into Roomful of Mirrors, to the LA 69 versions where Mitch gets a drum solo and Hendrix launches into Sunshine of Your Love before finishing Voodoo Child, to the Woodstock version a few months later that featured snippets of Steppin Stone (his song not the Monkeys song). And with a band like Pearl Jam where we have so many official releases out there to listen too, RVM in 2005 during the South American tour was amazing.
Oddly though, I have never heard a single live version of House of the Rising Sun, from ANYONE that tops the Animals studio version.

Evacuation is a good choice. Given to Fly with Matt pretty much sucks, and I love the song. Satan's Bed has never been given its due in a live setting. I can't recall a great live version of Help Help.
I saw them play Help Help and it slayed.
Where/when? I wanna watch it on the UToob.
Was Boston/Worcester/Hartford, but can't recall which.
I thought Help, Help was one of their weakest songs until I heard it live. The studio cut sounds neutered.

Saw that a few times in 2000 and it was far better live than it was in record.

perhaps we need to clarify what is meant by "are trainwrecks live" ....?
1) do we mean "are trainwrecks when performed live, now in 2016/2017"
2) or do we mean "have always been a trainwreck when performed live, even right after the album was released"
If we are talking about #1, then many songs fit this bill; but if #2, the list becomes much smaller. Many of the RA songs, for example; sounded fine/great when performed live right after their release; but contempo pearl jam 2016/2017 doesn't seem to be able to perform many of them with the same umami anymore

I agree that it's much better live, but it's usually a trainwreck anyway with at least one member of the band getting lost somewhere. It doesn't seem to come naturally to anyone but Matt and possibly Jeff. They haven't played a good version of it since 2000.

I don't know what it is about last year's bootlegs, but they were pretty hit or miss for me. I have a hard time even wanting to listen to them. There's a few that are pretty damn good, though. Pemberton and Telluride are excellent. One I was enamored with on first listen, Quebec City, I tried to listen to it again and cringed when I heard how horrible Once sounded and can't quite get past it. Some shows were fast and others plodded along. Forgotten lyrics and poor enunciation drives me crazy. Ed really should think about using a teleprompter..

As far back as 2003, Ed was regularly fucking up songs like Hail Hail and State Of Love And Trust every night and nobody ever told him to shape up. But then in 2005 he was singing them right again, so he must have re-learned them again in rehearsals. He just forgets shit.
