I would looooovvvvvve someone to edit together a definitive version of unplugged, specifically to correct the horrendous Oceans edit and add on RITFW...

I’d be curious to find out how the Beth lyric got edited in the first place. Did PJ do it? Did they have to get MTV to do it if they owned the masters/rights? And if so, what was that conversation?

I'd be surprised if the band even knows such an edit exists. Someone made that call based on an imagined volatility of Ed's persona.

No way on earth did that happen without Ed's specific instruction and the rest of the band's gritted-teeth acquiescence.

It's so stupid, petty and downright weird.

It's an archival performance and the edit butchers the song musically, it's not like cutting a brief moment of stage banter.

besides who the fuck cares? It happened in 1992. Ed obsession for control is, most of the times, just stupid.

That's the weird part, it seems so thoroughly pointless - it was 1992!

He was with Beth for a long time and mentioned her at shows frequently in the 90s, both in his stage banter and occasionally during songs (Oceans, Not For You, etc.) - it's going to be pretty tough to excise all mention of her from any archival release as though she never existed.

yeah, and its not like they have to pay her or whatever for those brief mentions..its just that he wants her out from that moment. Im sure he wants to have Dave A. out too.

Having said that WOW that version of Oceans might be my favorite.
