I'm about halfway through this but had to stop to do some work. Early thoughts are it isn't as bad as the reviews I've seen, the plot point they use to continue the story is fine, really. Some spoilers:
Spoiler: show
While changing actors for Morpheus wasn't a big deal, I need Hugo Weaving as Mr. Smith.

Seeing Lambert Wilson back as an old ass Merovingian was kind of cool.

Yeah those two demand a huge buy in. I couldn’t do it tbh.

It’s very different from the others. I can understand why many won’t like it, but I enjoyed it. It’s clumsy at times, but the story is good. If you’re in it for pure nostalgia, you’ll be disappointed, but it must be hard to make something like this work so many years later. I think they did a good job. But I also loved 2 & 3 which aren’t as popular, so…

Finished it. It was… ok? Nothing really happened. Or what happened didn’t need to happen? I don’t know. It wasn’t bad but i don’t understand the main plot and one character:
Spoiler: show
If Bugs hadn’t broken out Neo, then the free humans would have still been safe, right? So the point of the story was just to break them both out to reunite them? And smith was absolutely an afterthought in this.

This was okay. I feel like it was made just to give a happily ever after when we watched them sacrifice themselves in the 3rd movie

garbage.
ugly, boring, sterile, emotionless. too slow, then too fast, then a slow scene intercut with a fast scene. too clever by half but also phenomenally stupid. about the quality i'd expect from some random youtube video with 420K views and a bunch of people in the comments saying 'wow i wish this was real'. waste of time. I'll watch it one more time and then pretend it doesn't exist.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this. I know the franchise means a lot to you.

meh, i had zero hopes. I thought it would be at least a little substantial, though. Reloaded and Revolutions aren't good but there are at least things going on the whole time. this was just in one ear and out the other nothingness, just a slog to sit through

Overall, it has some good plot ideas but the whole thing felt like a cheap knockoff done by fans of the original. It doesn't look like the originals cinematically and all the action was shot way too close. It felt cheap.

Did Michael Bay shoot the motorcycle shop scene?

The meta stuff mostly works. I was into the movie for the first 20 minutes and then it just never really goes anywhere interesting. I do appreciate that it wasn't a blatant nostalgia play. There was an attempt at something fresh here.

Way too much reliance on the old footage as flashbacks and a lot of the exposition wasn't handled well or was just too obvious. We don't need to be spoonfed.

Niobe was just annoying. Both the actress and the characterization.

Not using Don Davis (who I'm pretty sure had a cameo in the movie alongside most of the other creatives from the trilogy like Chad Stahelski and John Gaeta) for the score is a head scratcher. The music on its own is fine but it never felt right.

The RATM cover is fine but feels like the volume was mixed way too low. That shit should blow your eardrums out when it hits.

I think a movie set during the machine war would've been much more interesting and engaging.

At least we'll always have that badass first trailer set to White Rabbit. And the great red pill/blue pill poster which I most certainly bought, framed, and have hanging prominently in my office.

But it was bad in ways that were interesting and unexpected. All the NPCs becoming falling man was very funny.

just came back. I kinda appreciate the meta approach, it actually trying something and then pretty much every character stays on camera explaining something i dont get for like 10 minutes.
The action kinda sucks, too digital.

Both Keanu and Carrie Ann look amazing tough.
Spoiler: show
so the matrix ressurrected both neo and trinity to have them in their new matrix code? i didnt understand shit
