I don't hate it. It's a bit more interesting than Supersonic and Gonna See My Friend.

The solo is really cool. Fits contextually and is a little different than recent McCready offerings.

I have no idea why you'd release something like this as a single, however.

From a sonic standpoint - it gives me a lot of hope for the overall sound and production quality for the album. That's two songs in a row that actually SOUND pretty damn good. It's the rambling/meandering of the lyrics that really hold this thing back.

I think one thing I'm enjoying about these songs is the obvious choice to operate in a key that Ed can actually pull off. In many ways, these songs are the opposite of Can't Deny Me.

The "la da da das" are really good. I wish they came back.

I think the solo is the obvious weak link here. It's the most conventional thing about the song and mutes the potential cumulative effect of the rest of its all-over-the-placeness.

maybe at least the fact that the "la la las" are over and done quickly means a live call and response is less likely, which can only be a good thing; if they were in the outro I would be worried

I’m confident he la-la’d that melody as a possible chorus in the demo, and his kids liked it so he kept it in just at that part. They were right tho.

it's got a real sense of abandon that something like getaway does not have. getaway has got a much more identifiable structure with that rock solid bass line but doesn't come close to achieving the amount of fun SBWM is pulling off. i think it's premature to write this off.

Sense of abandonment helps frame the song in a positive light for sure!

This is definitely true; for better or worse, these songs seem much more have Eddie navigating where his voice actually is, as opposed to where it can't go anymore.

all my favourite PJ "fun" songs feel unfinished, unpolished, as if they genuinely enjoyed themselves and then said that'll do

BoB would have had them do 25 more takes, but this new guy caught Ed having a blast and said "that's it"

I don't know, this recording feels really overdone and polished to me, not the kind of "one and done" vibe you get from songs like...I don't know, I'm actually not sure I get that vibe from any Pearl Jam songs. Maybe some of the stuff on Riot Act.

The song just feels so incoherent. Not like, "Wow, this is unrestrained freedom letting itself loose on record," but like, "This person has no instinct for how to form a cohesive melody or song structure." I feel like it starts off promising with this almost 50's-surf-rock sounding chord progression, like maybe this is going to be an enjoyable minor track, but it quickly descends into this disorganized clutter of musical nonsense.

I’ve listened once. I’m a bit befuddled, but the last minute or two had me fucking grooving. This is a confusing song, and my gut says that’s actually a very good sign for Gigaton. I don’t want to hear PJ do something they’ve done before. We’ve had that forever. This sounds different. It’s kinda dirty. I love some of the guitar tones in the riff. I’m really uncertain how I will feel about this song in another month or two. Hell, I’m interested to know what it will sound like on second listen. Here goes...

Third time’s the charm. This song is groovy. I’m stoked for Gigaton, it feels like it could go anywhere. That’s an incredibly fun and renewed spirit I haven’t felt about PJ in about 15 years. This is fun again.
