thats what infallible was about. these arent exclusive options. i think the way trump gets used is actually kind of surprising - these arent rants in the bushleaguer sense. he is treated structurally

I haven't looked at the Infallible lyrics hard enough, but the one song I always return to that explicitly calls out capitalism and the rich hoarding wealth is "Grievance"

I wish he would have sang on the intro jam. It's similar to the daughter jam they do live

for me the political stuff totally works here, because it's not "rant" as much as just one colour in the emotional landscape he's painting with the lyrics

Agreed, and his strengths lean towards the more abstract approach. But I think these are more complicated than trump call outs. They are interacting with the songs other lyrics in interesting ways. Can’t Deny Me was just a call out

totally, Can't Deny Me was superficial and one-dimensional

My fav off the album. Superb melody.

This is getting better and better for me with every listen. The last Pearl Jam album where repeated listening paid off for me was Riot Act. Feels good to feel that way about a PJ album again.

The chorus has anthemic Yield vibes while the intro sounds like Ten with doses of ambience.

I get annoyed at these kinds of silly, idiosyncratic comparisons (and there's been many in the last few days!) but some quality in this song strangely and vaguely reminds me of Wild Mood Swings-era Cure.

I'm sorry, I had to get that thought out of my brain into the world.

yeah, the ambience is there for sure...kinda like Footsteps. I missed it so much from recent songs.

I don't hear any Cure influence in the chorus, actually. Someone on here compared that section to Duran Duran's Ordinary World and I definitely hear that.

It's the intro and verses I'm thinking of, something about the synth, the burbling electric guitar and rolling acoustic brings to mind some long-lost mid-90s Cure b-side.

I realise that's the part everyone else hears Springsteen in, but (thankfully) I get quite a different feel from it.
