I’m surprised how much it sticks with me and I keep coming back to it even though it’s not my favorite on Gigaton. The same thing happened with Army Reserve on Avocado. The first time I heard it I was like “OK that’s cool” but then it just wouldn’t leave me.
Yeah it’s a little overwrought at times and extremely earnest. There’s definitely a 80’s feel with that keyboard at the end. I think we forget sometimes that these guys came of age in the early 80’s so there’s going to be some influence that peeks in there as they get on in years and think back on all the music that was around and inspired them. That stuff was too recent to be cool in the 90’s.

I just listened to it and enjoyed it more than ever. My ranking has been 3.5, but this might be a 4. The last 1:30 is basically a 4.5 or 5, so I dunno.
Why are people hating this so much? I don't get it.
It starts as a 70s Yes song with that acoustic guitar, then turns into a latter day Rush type of ballad (in fact, I can see Neil (RIP) writing those lyrics/vocal melodies) and then it ends on a Sigur Rós-ish trance/jam from the med sud... era with echoey Ed vocals and some interesting ambient sounds.... what's not to like?!
People hating on this is why we can't have nice things.
