it got better. I really like the piano melody..i just wish the band could do something else, bring the song to a different level.
Yes, I am. I think, like other author's have suggested, it's a "hopeful and anti-apocalyptic ballad" (see here http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/07/w ... ture-days/).Thejambi wrote:IlluminEddie wrote:Me opinion:
This song is not directed to his wife or his kids. It's directed to people who feel the same way he does (mainly about religion and the world order). It's another song in the same manner as MYM. In fact, it makes me think they are related. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole album is. Lightning Bolt is tough to make much out of (lyrically - it gets jumbled towards the end), but it doesn't make me cast that theory off either.
P.S. To answer a question on why are there new posters here: I'm here, like many, because I was banned from the Pit. Then they wanted me to pay again and I thought to myself - F them. Anyway, I was here way back under another name, for some reason I can't login under that name. In fact, I started that Target, Ticketmaster, and the Ten Club thread a few years back. Anyway, I only find time to talk PJ around album releases anymore. One remaining question I have that everyone seems to be ignoring - how will the distribute this album (Target, Walmart)?
You're talking about Future Days right?
The board was restarted Jan 1 and everyone had to reregisterIlluminEddie wrote:Me opinion:

When I posted it lightning bolt wasn't in the thread title....Thejambi wrote:Whoever suggested taking (Lightning Bolt) out of the thread title.. I agree.
I think we need to poll these songs also.
this is my concern.Kevin Davis wrote:"Future Days" is the sort of song that would have been fine to put on a charity album for breastfeeding moms, but not the sort of thing you want taking up precious running time on a proper album.digster wrote:I don't really have a problem with minimal instrumentation....it can be a cool change of pace in the course of a record, albeit not a well that one can go back to that often. That being said, the song has to have some meat to it, especially if you're presenting it that unencumbered. This one, well....it just doesn't have that, to my ears.
I'm very surprised that after hearing three songs from the record, my favorite is Mind Your Manners by a considerable margin.
I'm not touching lyrics until we have a studio versionwarehouse wrote:has stip broken down the lyrics yet?
i only listened to it once, but this song did nothing for me.
Who can even tell the difference between this type of Ed song and the others he has written anymore? Is this really that much different than the bad one we got for that chick flick, or that other one that sounded like it that came after?stip wrote:this is my concern.Kevin Davis wrote:"Future Days" is the sort of song that would have been fine to put on a charity album for breastfeeding moms, but not the sort of thing you want taking up precious running time on a proper album.digster wrote:I don't really have a problem with minimal instrumentation....it can be a cool change of pace in the course of a record, albeit not a well that one can go back to that often. This is certainly true; it pertains to the rock songs as well. You can listen to the riff on Insignificance, and it's doing A LOT. Which can be cool, and when the band is able to use it to an advantage it's good, but when you have something like Unthought Known when he's just wailing on open chords for all their worth trying to add some interesting counter melodies or accompaniment runs the risk of dissolving the arrangement into mush.Blenheim Augustine wrote:
One of the issues with Ed's songwriting contributions is that he often leaves very little space for two other guitars since he often plays the vocal melody on the guitar and plays open chords across six strings. It means that there's very little of the band's personality within the song as Mike and Stone are largely following the main chords or playing incidental guitar licks and Jeff is playing root notes. I think this is probably where we get the idea that these are 'solo' songs because the rest of the band is largely redundant. However, if the songs were any good I probably wouldn't care about any of this - I don't have a problem with Corduroy or Elderly Woman or Off He Goes because they are good songs.
I'm not sure I can hear them doing anything at all, so I guess I'm looking forward to finding out whether what they're doing is nice.VinylGuy wrote:it got better. I really like the piano melody..i just wish the band could do something else, bring the song to a different level.
I think illuminEddie might just be living up to his name here.Thejambi wrote:IlluminEddie wrote:Me opinion:
