My favorite Ed ocean references are of the trapped at sea variety:
All the advantage this life's got on me
Picture a cup in the middle of the sea
Been
Fucking
There

I literally can't get enough of CC. Literally.
But why, why, whyyyyyy couldn't they make the part between 2:40 and 3:00 three times as long??? The guitars are magic, absolutely magic during that short instance.
And the final few seconds before the fade out starting at 5:33 deserved a LOT MORE air time. The organ begins playing something very interesting, almost reminding me of the stuff The Doors would do on the keyboards.

Ocean related which is of my particular liking:
"If I was lost at sea
That harpoon boat in front of me
It's the whale I'd like to be"

Listening to CC now, in the middle of the night, everything dark and quiet.. gives me chills and makes me cry like no other song did in a long time. Just magic. The last time I had those feelings for a song was for Sleight Of Hand maybe.
Beautiful.

Sleight of Hand is my second favorite PJ song. That is the song that CC reminded me of too (at least to a degree). That's very high praise.
I love this song a lot.

SOH is slow and gripping and just beautiful... have yet to hear that one live! And now CC is on that list too, but they'll probably boycott this song forever..

I got Sleight of Hand in St. Paul. It was one of the two shows on back to back nights with Tom Petty. SoH is cool live but it is a beautiful monster on the album.

I just listened to the song today, at first I was a little dissapointed by this (probably after reading everything people had said about it) but after several listens, this has really grown on me.
I actually I think I like most of avocado songs better than this (which is actually one of my favorite albums, even if most people dont like it) but Im really loving the atmosphere this brings
Hope it is on LB

Im starting to label any unreleased song that hasnt appeared on anything official yet "Stray Cats" should definitely be the title of the next Lost Dogs album....
Mixed this song onto my 3 disc "best of PJ" cds i keep at work... put it between I got Id and Footsteps
whomever was mentioning the vocals saying they should start off lower? that would really give this song a Crazy Mary feel to it... cant decide if that would be a good thing, or if its great how it is as it gives it a different feel? Eds vocals give me a very Neil Young "Mellow My Mind" the way hes singing on this.

not a bad idea... and make the club show 10C only... everyone enters for tickets... 1000 lucky people ONLY get the club show... rest get the arena/stadium
Cold Confession's im really digging... I could totally picture them doing this song with Neil on organ!
Pfff, I really don't feel like signing up in that club again.
think of all the 'this is just a cash grab from the 10c" threads we could start

MemoFromTurner wrote:Cold Confession would be a killer album and concert closer. I just made the Indifference connection mostly in Ed's vocal performance. This song has the "I will light the match this morning..." fragility we haven't really heard from again besides maybe Strangest Tribe. Apologies if these comparisons were hit upon earlier in the thread. This board is blowing up with fanboy catnip so I haven't been able to keep up.
New theory: this was too good to go on the last two albums. They are saving this for something really special. Lightning Bolt? Harhar.
i adore this song but it has no business closing out a concert. An album, sure, but not a concert

i don't particularly enjoy SOH and love this one. It has the intimacy that SOH lacks

Cold Confession Lyrics:
He scared himself, into a trance
ducking down rivers, secretly
He floated out, into the ocean
of his worst dream, of his rough sea
of all the men he could trust
he was not one of them, always hurting himself
the scars in the seam, the wounds are torn (??)
whatever time had healed, it's still too cold
A life washed away, like words in the sand
and when the high tide came, so went his brain
a troubled past, a troubled future
a troubled way leaning on a bar stool
one strobelight star, he finally saw
navigation towards a brand new course
but to himself the memory clear
cold confession only, that only he could hear
He let himself scream, he let himself cry
let himself reach the other side
there was no christ, there was no cross
just forgiveness, allowed himself
accepted the past, then set it free
oh and it ran off like an animal with ease
he holds the bruise, he holds their star (??)
in his pure arms, in his clear heart
He's safe now, he's back in her breast
he saw his path, and changed it, chased it, at last
